after a log of googleing and trying different things. I am beginning to think my MMDVM hat is not working..
Even dug out a RTL-SDR Dongle, setup Gqrx in waterfall mode to monitor 438.4MHz, then ran the DMR Simplex Pattern in MMDVMCal, no difference in the waterfall display when transmit was on or ...

According to the config page, Node Type = Public.
I will have to research MMDVMcal some more (on initial view don't see the use here as I don't have a dummy load or a frequency analyzer).
The freq's are based on the Northern California 70CM Band Plan for Digital:
431.4 - 431.7, 431.8 - 432.0
433.0 ...

Everything looks correct.
Pi-Star: TX 438.4, RX 431.4, No talk Groups Defined (I.E. All allowed)
Radio (AnyTone D878UVII Plus): TX 431.4, RX 438.4, Talk Groups NorCal, Parrot & Disconnect.
When I key the radio nothing happens ...
