Re: 4.1.0 Announcement - Selling Yourself Short?

@MW0MWZ I certainly understand about keeping busy. Pi-Star continues to spread like wildfire, so that's a very good thing! But I was very serious about competing with the Openspot 3. They are substantially more expensive than buying an MMDVM-based hotspot (whether it runs Pi-Star or something else),...

4.1.0 Announcement - Selling Yourself Short?

Hello, First - congrats to the Pi-Star team on shipping version 4.1.0!!! Second - I read the announcement on the forum and I think you're selling yourself short. You have a lot to be proud of! The quote "So whats new - not much honestly, this process was focussed on fixing up the weird issues with W...

Re: Unable to Switch Back to 'rpi-ro'

@KE7FNS First - let me clear one thing up... I know this is not a Pi-Star issue. It's an issue that plagues the Raspberry Pi platform and is a direct result from the Pi's reliance on SD cards as their primary method of storage. Thankfully the 3B+ and 4 allow you to use alternative storage (SSD/HD or...

Re: Custom Firewall Rules Lost on Reboot

@KE7NFS I'll tell you what - go take a look at my profile on LinkedIn to see what I do for a living - then tell me I don't have familiarity with Linux or Unix operating systems. https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffhochberg I've been working with Linux/UNIX operating systems for the past 25+ years - incl...

Re: Unable to Switch Back to 'rpi-ro'

I wish that rebooting fixed the issue - even temporarily. It does not. Any time run Pistar-update/upgrade the final message beside exiting the script is “mount / is busy” When the script exits, the filesystem is (rpi-rw). There’s something that’s holding files open that doesn’t want to release them ...

Re: Custom Firewall Rules Lost on Reboot

Thanks for the follow-up. You dug through all the script and posted sections of it, but didn't bother to investigate what it was reporting. Actually, the line you referenced in the 'pistar-firewall' script is exactly how I discovered that the script was trying to write changes to /etc/iptables.rules...

Re: Unable to Switch Back to 'rpi-ro'

Well, this is still an issue. I appreciate everyone's comments as to what they did that resolved the issue for them, but I continue to see very inconsistent behavior. I can't tell you how many times I speak with others running Pi-Star where they didn't realize how important it was to shut down their...

Re: Advice for connecting through Captive Portals

Hi Steve, Glad to see I'm not the only one that remembers using lynx! 8-) I ended up adding a travel router to my arsenal while traveling with my hotspot. I use a GLinet AR-750 running official OpenWrt (not the OpenWrt version that comes on the router out of the box). I have the router set up with a...

Re: Custom Firewall Rules Lost on Reboot

I hope Andy Taylor can weigh in here. Hopefully, this isn't a matter of needing any major changes. It's odd that there's an article on the Pi-Star Wiki that infers the ipv4.fw file should be present on the filesystem when in fact it's not present. It seems as though, based on the following section, ...

Custom Firewall Rules Lost on Reboot

I tried following the instructions as outlined here: http://wiki.pistar.uk/Adding_custom_firewall_rules_to_Pi-Star The following is the rule that I need to add: iptables -A OUTPUT -p udp --dport 62036 -j ACCEPT I looked under /root and the file 'ipv4.fw' does not exist. I looked at the 'pistar-firew...
