Thanks all for the help and advice. Finally tracked the writing to FAT partition problem down to a faulty uSD/SD card adaptor stuck in read only. Now fixed and connected to new Starlink router.

I did try that but with the SD card image mounted on my MacBook I am unable to write anything into the root directory.
Maybe I should try Windows?

Make SURE the pins on the OLED do not touch the RPi's GPIO underneath. That is one of the dumbest PCB design decisions I've ever seen. Update to my previous. By changing the radio Ur: to REF001C I was able to call out and just had a brief chat with a ham in Canada.
