Re: A Newbie seeking advice
Hi, I've found that the "JumboSpot" platform (a MMDVM Pi Hat connected by header to a Raspberry Pi Zero W) works well, proves reliable if built with quality components, and is easy to work with. These are available assembled with cases and small OLED displays for under $80 US and can routi...

Re: Talker Alias on Dashboard?
That's remarkable. Only this morning I was looking at the dashboard, and realized that there is extra space after the date, a couple of places between callsign and "(GPS)" and a couple after target when the table is fully expanded. Since the alias can be large and length unpredictable, it ...

Re: Pistar linking DMR
Take a look at the setting that limits the hotspot's response to just your DMR ID. Your hotspot can limit response to just your DMR ID, or work with all comers. Your choice. Also consider that you can setup a talkgroup with your own DMR ID as the GroupID for private usage. This would allow all confi...

Re: 2 hotspots failed after upgrade to 4.1.2
The OLED IS attached through the /dev/ttyAMA0 port. No it isn't. That is the serial port connection from the RPi to the MMDVM hat. And again, the OLED does not use serial communications, it uses i2c. type sudo i2cdetect -y 1 And you'll see its address which should be 0x3C or maybe 0x22. The detecte...

Re: 2 hotspots failed after upgrade to 4.1.2
The OLED is attached through /devttyAMA0 port. After the 4.1.2 update, I noticed that there are TWO of these ports listed on the configuration options list. Its been a while since I've tinkered with an OLED but I'm pretty sure /dev/ttyAMA0 is the incorrect port for an OLED, it should be set to mode...

Re: 2 hotspots failed after upgrade to 4.1.2
One of the symptoms is that under the Radio Info window, the FW and TXCO frequency information is NOT displayed after the R4.1.2 upgrade because initialization hangs up when PiStar tries to communicate with the MMDVM modem. The resolution for me (brute force) was to shut OFF the OLED and port select...

Re: 2 hotspots failed after upgrade to 4.1.2
I have MMDVMHSHat and MMDVMHS-Dual Hat modem JumboSpots, and they also have failed with installation of 4.1.2 PiStar. I have Oled3 Oleds on the MMDVM modem boards. The OLED is attached through /dev/ttyAMA0 port. After the 4.1.2 update, I noticed that there are TWO of these ports listed on the config...

Re: Which MMDVM Board?
Hi Phil, Yes - I read through the thread from the beginning. The voice encoding "VoCoder", sometimes known by the brand name AMBE, is a proprietary firmware based processor that is inside the radios themselves, often implemented in a dedicated chip processor for that specific task. It's no...

Re: Which MMDVM Board?
This whole thread is interesting because I suspect that many hams that would love to experiment with digital radio like DMR, YSF, D-Star, P-25 etc are frustrated by the complexity that various products, write-ups, forums and products expose. It's hard to "get" the big picture of where each...
