Can you change the date portion of the backups to something like YYYY-mm-dd?
This would result in backup names that sort by date in a directory versus having to hunt for a backup by day number and month names.

Please be sure you are providing the RPi with enough (clean) power as these boards are very sensitive with regard to voltage and current and will not operate correctly. Any issue I have had with intermittent WiFi has been resolved with using a good power supply.
