Re: D-star net, disconnect after 24h

Two days ago I updated both my Pi-Stars, one uses a Raspberry Pi Zero W and the other a Pi 3B. Both now run 4.2.3 with a Chinese (eBay) MMDVM board complete with OLED displays.

No problems with D-Star, the 3B one has been on REF079 for over 24 hours.

Re: Request: Help upgrading from 4.1.10 to 4.2x

Not sure about benefits, but it is very easy to do. Upgraded one of mine this morning. Just remember to make a backup using the backup/restore feature on the Pi-Star dashboard. I put the backup into the root of the SD card and it read the settings.

If you have more than one WiFi that you use, it ...

Re: Connections taking a while to establish

Having carefully checked what is happening, the following seems to be the case with mine:

If the Raspberry Pi is left running 24/7, it always connects to a reflector. However, the automatic update each morning sometimes results in a delay of up to an hour before the Pi is reconnected to a reflector ...

Re: Connections taking a while to establish

I have the same issue on a DVAP (Pi 3B) and an MMDVM board on another Pi 3B. One is used via a phone hotspot and the other is wired to a router. I have a third using a Pi Zero W in a slim aluminium case, but that restricts the WiFi performance and is rarely used.

My “workaround” is to leave the ...

Re: M1ABC call on dashboard after update

Update... A little midnight oil later, did a backup. Formatted the card and re-installed a fresh image, restored from backup.

Problem solved and the backup even restored my colour scheme. Quite painless and quick.

Re: M1ABC call on dashboard after update

The fetch-head problem might need a little more doing to fix...

From the CLI type

cd /usr/local/bin
sudo git stash
sudo git pull

Sent via smoke signals from my SM-G935F M1DNS (Admin)

Tried that, unfortunately without success.
It still returns the following afterwards when I run "update ...

M1ABC call on dashboard after update

When running an update, one of my Pi-Star boards reverts back to M1ABC as the call. I note there is an error when updating and it looks like something may be set to read only preventing changes. This is what is displayed when running the update:

Starting update, please wait...

Re: Colour OLED screen

I don’t know if two colours will suffice, the small yellow and blue 0.96” OLED screens work fine with a standard MMDVM board. I recently fitted one from an eBay supplier, eBay item number 134204262304

It has the correct order of connections and spacing to fit straight onto the MMDVM board.

Re: TX output

I have three “hotspots”, two are MMDVM boards and the other is a 2m DVAP dongle.

They all produce between 10 and 12mW output, as measured with a Rigol spectrum analyser and attenuator. This is the specification of the IC used in the boards.

The maximum range I can “ping” one of the 70 cm MMDVM ...

Re: Hotspot with built-in SIM - does one exist?

Assuming your mobile provider doesn’t block tethering, a Pi-Star hotspot will work without issues. I have 3 “Pies”, a Pi Zero W with Chinese MMDVM, a 3B also with Chinese MMDVM and another 3B with a red coloured DVAP. All work via my iPhone SE (2020). They also worked with my earlier iPhone SE and ...
