Hello from Montana.

First of all, I would like to just clarify that Montana is not part of Canada, although, we are pretty close. Hahahaha. I am just getting into digital radio. Got my first DMR radio and then realized that none of the HAM repeaters around here run VHF. But I need VHF in my truck due to fire/EMS and work. So for right now, I am not running DMR in the truck. Which brings me to why I am here.

I have been reluctant to buy a hot spot because I refuse to have a $400 radio talking to a $200 box across the room that is dumping into the internet. Currently, I have a CS800D, accessing a repeater that is around 40 miles away. And it is working great. However, I am kinda at the mercy of other local traffic in regards to the repeater.

I would like to create a high powered hot spot with a good antenna outside my home where I could access a hot spot with a mobile VHF radio from a pretty good distance. I also am intrigued by P25 rather than DMR because, well, I really liked the Motorola XTL5000's.

So I am researching the possibilities of P25 rather than DMR.
