Personally, I have never formatted my microSD cards. I just use Etcher to flash the image. I have used 8, 16, and 32 MB cards successfully.

Thanks for your reply.
I am using Balena Etcher on a 16 GB SD which I am 100% sure is working OK.
In fact, formatting before writin an image is useless ... basically just to check the SD card is ok.

I remember that months ago, when I flashed the SD working on Raspberry, I had the error pop up appearing on my Win 10 PC.
Then I had no more "bad format" error ... and the Raspberry won't boot any longer.

I suppose this could be the cause. Do you have any idea of what happened ?

UPDATE: ISSUE SOLVED

The problem was that the ETCHER was reporting a huge GREEN indicator to indicate the etching has been completed, and a small RED button to indicate there was an error.
Changed PC and everything went OK
