Pi-Star v4.0.0 RC2 - available

Pi-Star v4.0.0 RC2 is available, release candidate 2 is the 2nd release candidate, this is your chance to join us in testing this release, you can restore backups from v3.x and v4.x give it a go and let us know what you think.
I expect to make this up to a non-beta release in around a week if there are no terrible bugs.
from v4.0.0-RC1 onwards this release will update/upgrade in the normal way, so if there are any bugs, we'll use the normal update/upgrade process to iron them out.
This image should work on every Raspberry Pi foundation board, from the original A board up to the latest Pi 3 A+ all using the same image.

To move to the RC2 release, is there a sudo command to do the upgrade or do we need to reburn the image to the SD card and start fresh?

I just completed the process using Craig's method and going from a ZUMspot + RPi Zero WH to the same ZUMspot + RPi 3A+. Seems to working quite well. Two notes:
- It takes awhile for the backup config file to get unzipped and installed, so be patient on first boot. Not too long, but longer than a regular boot up.
- The password reverts to raspberry.

Just in answer to these;
When you build a fresh image and restore a config, the config restore never touches the password, it never has, and it was a deliberate decision to back it up/restore it.
The first boot does take some time because these new images auto-expand the filesystem on first boot
it's a new thing in Pi-Star 4.0.0
Is there / will there be an in-place upgrade from 3.x.x > 4.x.x, no, the upgrade of the OS is just too complex, and its a moving target, if I really thought that I could do that reliably enough, we would have.
This new build brings back the single RPi image for all the Raspberry Pi models, no more separate image for A3+/B3+ boards, I even tested it on the Original Pi A (256MB RAM), it even works on that
Here is the highlights;

OS changed to Raspbian Stretch (from Jesse).
Updating the base OS brings better support for a few things, and
some minor challenges too, but it should look / feel and work just
the same way it always did.
Image auto expand - the first time you boot a fresh image, it will auto
expand the file system, so that you dont have to, it all happens
pretty quickly, so much so that you might not even notice.
NTP Support Improved
NTP support has been improved, Pi-Star should do a much improved
job of jumping to the correct time after boot up, and staying
on time correctly.
Current DStarRepeater / ircDDBGateway software, keeping Pi-Star close to
the bleeding edge for these platforms, including terminal support
for Icom radios that support it.
Unified image for all models of Raspberry Pi Foundation hardware, finally
bringing back the single image for all devices again, and taking
the Raspberry Pi 3B+ out of beta, also adding in support for the
Raspberry Pi 3A+ too.
Improved screen when booting up, its now more obvious that you should
not be using the console to interact with the Pi. I hope that
doing that will help first time users see what to do.
Additional hardening to nginx to stop it being broken by OS updates.

Used v4.0 RC2 running on ZUMspot + RPi 3A+ (including a 3.2" Nextion plugged into the USB port) to participate in the Colorado Hotspot Discussion net via DMR 31088 tonight, and everything worked flawlessly. Really great job, Andy!

I unzipped the file and burned it to an SD card and placed it into my pi 3B. How long should it take before I am able to login? It's been about 15 minutes and still no response from the pi when I go to
http://pi-star/admin/

Update - In my post from above, I was saying that pi-star wasn't responding when I tried to login to the dashboard. I tried several re-installs of version 4 and during the last install I happened to have my radio on. I found that pi-star version 4 is indeed working on my pi and it loaded the configuration file without a problem. The issue turns out that it doesn't appear to like the Chrome browser and just ignores it. However if I try to login using Edge it lets me in no problem.

Hi Jeff, here's one thing that has worked for me in similar situations: try logging in once in Chrome using the IP address. After that, log in with the normal URL you use, for example,
http://pi-star.local/. Once I've done this, the regular URL continues to work. I'm guessing this has something to do with my router or wireless network, not directly with Pi-Star.

Hi Andy. Firstly just a great big thank you for your stirling work with Pi-Star.....oh, and a very Happy New Year!
Just tried to install the Pi-Star mobile addition from amateurradio.digital. Doesn't seem to work unfortunately. Im guessing it's because of the change in OS?
