Just a quick followup on this.... It was Microsoft that caused the whole issue. Surprise, surprise! Here is the relevant article where I found the solution:

If anyone else is still running Windows 7 and can't access their shared folders and files from a Linux system, this is worth looking at. Once I applied the patch, I can reach the Windows shares now.

But I learned a lot about Master Browsers in this process. That LanScan program is very handy to find out where they are on your LAN.

Funny how we're all IT experts now, but that had to happen once computers and radios merged. Good times indeed.

Congratulations on figuring it out, Doug!

Last year, I came across an article by Thorin Klosowski, "What I’ve Learned From Tinkering With the Raspberry Pi for Five Years," Lifehacker.com (https://lifehacker.com/what-i-ve-learne ... 1793236686). My emphasis added:

In the article, he says: "The Raspberry Pi is far, far away from being as user friendly as a PC or Mac. That’s a feature, not a bug. The Raspberry Pi is built to force you to learn troubleshooting, and that’s still one of my favorite things about it."

Troubleshooting can be a pain in the rear, but I love that feeling when I finally figure things out, and I appreciate that I almost always learn something new along the way.

I just ran across this. Yes, RPi's can be used for nefarious purposes too!

Good to hear you've solved it! Micro$oft's creation bites itself in the tale every now and then.... that is why i'm not buying this stuff until it is "finished" and "tested"....HI.

Anyway yet another problem less and a nice conversation added to this board.

Thanks for being patient and hope to work you in the future Doug.
