Alert: You are running an outdated version of Pi-Star

Post by F4MZI »

I still use a Pi-Star version 3 on my Pi Zero because it is very light and works well on this small machine.
For a few days, I have a warning message on my PI Zero: Alert: You are running an outdated version of Pi-Star
But when I install the latest version 4.X, my Pi Zero is too slow to use it.

What to do to continue using a lightweight distribution on a Pi Zero?
Thank you

I have 3 Pi Zero W boards, all running Pi-Star 4.1.4 perfectly and adequately fast.

Not sure why you have this problem, but the hardware is good enough to work.

why was Inga YL3IM's answer deleted?
What's wrong with its solution?
Is she breaking a forum rule?
I find this method not correct. Censorship should not have its place in our experiments.
At least the admin could explain why his post was deleted.

I tried to install V4.1.4 several times and it's always the same result: When I want to connect to the web page, I get the error message (500 Internal Server Error)
And ssh connections are refused
Thank you

Although it was not me that removed the post, my only comment is that the suggestion made little sense and would not have impacted performance much.

And I've just scrolled down from the top and removed it completly as thats normally what you see when a user tries to delete a post themself, you get the line strike. so thinking thats whats happened, ive got rid... oooops. But it wouldnt have been of any real benefit and could screw ur installation.

I removed it because instructions to remove a process that applies security updates to keep the OS current is unadvised.

I also made it so that if any other moderator disagrees with that decision they can undelete it and reverse my action if they so choose.

I felt that if Andy wanted the process removed he would of removed it in the base image to begin with like he did for many of the other packages installed in the default image.

You may see it as censorship, but I see it as protecting the common user who doesn't know any better from screwing around with something they shouldn't be.
OK. it's better when it's explained
But I am still facing the same problem: My Pi Zero W gives me a "500 Internal server error" with version 4.1.x
I also tried with a new SD card.
it's quiet strange

I installed a Pi Zero today for testing an un-related issue, and had no such issues with it.

Can you give us more detail on this, where do you see the error and is there more logging information to work out why?

Hello,
Yes, I can give an explanation. This is something that does not have to happen often in a lifetime: both SD cards are out of order ...
I stuck around for hours when it was just an SD card issue.
Now it works, but it's still very slow on a Pi Zero.
Sorry for the noise.
But I still find that it is not correct to delete messages without giving an explanation. And I am very surprised that this is happening on the Pi-Star website

It is definitely slower on the Pi Zero, the single core is the main reason.
