Armbina Stretch - kernel 4.14.x

Post by SP2ONG » Mon Oct 29, 2018 10:24 am

Hi Andy

Do you have a plane to use Armbian Stretch to PI-Star on Oragnge Pi Zero ?

https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero/

Armbian Stretch use mainline kernel 4.14.xx and it is a very stable version for long uptime

I will almost certainly move the kernel versions for all the non Raspberry Pi Foundation boards up a few versions, so yes probably.
This is most likely to happen after Pi-Star 4.x comes out of beta on the Raspberry Pi Foundation boards.

Orange Pi Zero image is being refreshed with the new Kernel, should be on the download server later today.

That brings us back in-line with the current Armbian release, the WiFi on these is still terrible :(

Ok You have only update kernel version on Orange Pi Zero to 4.19.x and base on Debian v8.0

I have check kernel

[email protected](rw):etc$ uname -a

Linux pi-star 4.19.13-sunxi #5.69 SMP Wed Jan 9 16:26:48 CET 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux

and version:

[email protected](rw):etc$more /etc/debian_version

8.0

[email protected](rw):apt$ more sources.list
deb http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org/raspbian/ jessie main contrib non-free rpi
# Uncomment line below then 'apt-get update' to enable 'apt-get source'
#deb-src http://archive.raspbian.org/raspbian/ jessie main contrib non-free rpi

Yes Pi-Star 4.0 is based on stretch...

The Non Raspberry Pi Foundation boards all run the kernels from Armbian, but the distribution is always Raspbian, this is so that all of the systems work the same. Since there is only the kernel talking to the hardware, there is no need to rebuild the whole system on Armbian.

I hope that makes some sense, remember that linux is only the kernel, the userland is all GNU.
