pistar-findmodem

Post by MW0MWZ »

See my announcement here: viewtopic.php?f=23&t=1248

Please use this thread for discussing your success/failure to find your screens using this tool.
It will *NOT* be able to find the screen if it's connected the other side of your MMDVM board, it will find them on the GPIO pins or on USB<->UART adapters.

It found my Nextion 3.5” enhanced screen correctly, but that was all....did not list my modem or other info. Since it’s not a board from Florian, et. al., I assume that’s why.
My specs, if needed: Jumbospot, early 2017 version, 14.7465 MHz, on Pi Zero W. FW HS_Hat V.1.4.14. — Pi-Star 3.4.16. — Dashboard 20190104.
As always, still tickled pink with Pi-Star and where you’re going with it.

Very interesting, thanks for the feedback;

Code: Select all

root@pi-star(ro):~# pistar-findmodem
Detected MMDVM_HS (GPIO): /dev/ttyAMA0 (MMDVM_HS_Dual_Hat-v1.4.14 20181209 14.7456MHz dual ADF7021 FW by CA6JAU GitID #8d77ff3)
root@pi-star(ro):~# exit
logout
pi-star@pi-star(ro):~$ pistar-findmodem
pi-star@pi-star(ro):~$
So as you can see, not running the tool as root - does change things - I'll go modify the tool to require root privs.

You need to be root to run this command...

pi-star@pi-star(ro):~$ sudo pistar-findmodem
Detected MMDVM_HS (GPIO): /dev/ttyAMA0 (MMDVM_HS_Dual_Hat-v1.4.14 20181209 14.7456MHz dual ADF7021 FW by CA6JAU GitID #8d77ff3)
OK I can live with that :)

Just tried this on my Zumspot. Got no response. My duplex returns all the modem info.

Oops. Why did I think not running as root would work when the other pistar-scripts need to? Hardening of the aptitudes, I guess. Running under sudo detects all. Thanks!

I have a modem which returns the same one as Andy shows. The Nextion screen is attached to the modem and as I understand it should be addressed as "modem" on the pi-star configuration screen. Indeed here is the reply I get from the interrogation:
pi-star@pi-starfdx(rw):~$ sudo pistar-findmodem
Detected MMDVM_HS (GPIO): /dev/ttyAMA0 (MMDVM_HS_Dual_Hat-v1.4.14 20181209 14.7456MHz dual ADF7021 FW by CA6JAU GitID #8d77ff3)
pi-star@pi-starfdx(rw):~$

I cannot get anything on the screen All of the wiring appears correct, but I am guessing that either the modem is not talking to the screen or what it is sending is not what the screen is looking for. Any ideas as how to figure out where the bits are getting lost? Here is the modem board I ordered. As
far as the RF part it is working great.

Any ideas as to where else to poke?
