NX4832T035_011 problem

I have followed all of the instructions as far as installing the Nextion Drivers but the screen isn't displaying my Dashboard.
Pi-Star Version 3.4.17 20190119
Display is interfaced using GPIO pins 4,6,8 and 10. The screen is loaded with NX4832T035-L3, which is ON7LDS_L3.
The basic screen is correct, white background with the MMDVR graphic at the top. When I re-booted the Pi-Star after driver install, the screen changes to MMDVM graphic across the top and "NextionDriver" in band one, "Started" in band 2 and wlan0: 192.168.1.250 in the bottom band.

What I have assumed to date is the hardware interface is working and communicating with the display, the driver is running and Pi-Star is able to send the IP address it is using correctly to the screen.

What am I missing???

I have discovered that with the Nextion screen plugged into the ZUMspot/Raspberry Pi Zero GPIO Pins 4,6,8,10, all my Modes go red. I run pistar-findmodem and nothing is found. Remove the screen and the modes (DMR, D-Star, YSF) all come back to life.

I am thinking that I need to move the 4 wire TTL interface from the GPIO where it is and put it on the ZUMspot board. Does this make sense?

Hi Rich,

I know of and have used two ways to connect a Nextion screen to a ZUMspot mounted on a Raspberry Pi:
  • Connect it to the USB port on the RPi using a USB to TTL UART CH340 Serial Converter.
  • Connect it to the Serial through-holes on the ZUMspot, which are connected to the Universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART) on the STM32 chip.
    • Note 1: TX on the Nextion display connects to the RX through-hole, and RX on the display connects to the TX through-hole.
    • Note 2: My 3.5″ Nextion Basic NX4832T035 and 3.2″ Nextion Enhanced NX4024K032 displays run fine using the 3V3 (3.3 volt) connection on the ZUMspot v0.4 board. I've tested this with both the RPi 3B and Zero W using a quality 2.5A power supply. I've heard others, who may have been using a larger Nextion display, have needed to connect to a 5-volt GPIO pin instead of the 3V3 through-hole. On the v0.6 board, the 3V3 through-hole is now a 5V connection.

I will sure give that a try. When you say "the 0.6 board", are you referring to the ZUMspot MMDVM board? I have the v0.4 ZUMspot board. I wasn't sure the Nextion would run on 3.3v but no harm in trying!

I successfully use the same Nextion display you are using directly connected to the Serial through-holes on a ZUMspot v0.4 board (at 3.3v) on one of my hotspots, and also another one connected via USB to another one of my hotspots. I do use good quality 2.5A power supplies in both cases.

Recently, ZUM Radio released the ZUMspot v0.6 board, which is an MMDVM board, an update of the v0.4 board. Unfortunately, in my opinion, at this time it is available only with a pre-installed 1.3" OLED (I prefer Nextion displays). Hopefully, there will be a bare board released sometime soon!
