Nextion Freezes PiStar

Post by WM4B »

I'm at a loss. I have a 4024T032 screen that works well when the port is set to modem, but of course I'm not getting Nextion specific data.

The hat is a Chinese duplex and I am running in repeater mode I have DSTAR, DMR, and YSF enabled.

Whenever I install the Nextion driver, I still get my scanning lights but when I transmit (DSTAR, for example) they will stop on DSTAR and there will be a COS light, but the hotspot never goes into TX, nor does the dashboard recognize that there is RF on the input. Also, after installing the Nextion driver, DMR Network status goes red.

I've done the installation a number of times per a couple of threads in the forum to no avail. I've tried rolling back to v4.1.2, installing the drivers, then restoring my settings with the same result. I've gone through the Expert editor to see if something was getting tweaked, but I'm not finding anything. I tried turning off DMR to see if the other modes would work and they do not.

Next?

Here's something I had not noticed. CPU utilization is at 1.63 / 1.33 / 1.2 and the temp is soring.

Yes... installing once or twice yields the same results. And no, my backup is fine... I've used it many times, including today and there is no problem with it.

I need to figure out how to use the bloody logs.

It'd be nice if stuff just worked the way it's supposed to occasionally.

There really isn't a reason to worry about CPU utilization or temperature, if it gets to around 80C it will throttle itself to prevent damage. I doubt it is anywhere near 80C either, and yes thats C, not F.

Its probably just the a background process applying various patches to the OS, once that fully completes it won't use as much CPU until theres another update needed.
It was 75C when I shut it down. Not background processes.

After looking at the source code that error message indicates that the OS cannot get the control attributes for the serial port. That is not a normal error, which leads me to believe you have a bad serial port on the RPi, or something is majorly wrong with the OS, or access permissions.
If I had a bad serial port, would the installation work with the port set to Modem? Because it does... I just don't get Nextion info. I DO have another rPi I can try.

The OS has been built and rebuilt a dozen times. It ALWAYS breaks IMMEDIATELY after the Nextion driver is installed. There IS something wrong with either the OS or the driver that is peculiar to my setup because obviously installing a driver (once or twice) should not break the installation.

Getting back to your comment about my backup, it is NOT bad... I have used it to rebuild numerous times and it works right out of the box.

Still nothing to worry about, it will self throttle to prevent damage. Buy a heatsink and setup a fan to get better cooling.

And yes it WAS background processes.
I have a heatsink and a fan on it... not my first rodeo.

Yes... background process running away... NOT doing useful things. Again, not my first build... NEVER seen that before.

I see it every time I boot a fresh installation of pi-star. Maybe you just aren't looking at the right thing.
You see a 25C increase in temps every time you boot?

I sense you feel I'm an idiot. I'm *NOT* a rPi guru like you, but I'm not stupid and don't appreciate the condescension.

This can wait for Andy... I've got other fish to fry.
