Other Nextion Layouts and Pi-Star

Post by KE2SJ »

Question - How do I use Nextion page layouts other than the two or three that Pi-Star allows in in its pull-down menus? (ON7LDS and G4KLX)? WHen I upload some of the files in this group, I get no response. My guess is that it's because Pi-Star isn't set up to address them?

Which layout?
What screen do you have?
You may fing the “Instructions.md file useful on my github page at: https://github.com/WA6HXG/MMDVM-Nextion-Screen-Layouts

Just make sure you use a computer or view desktop version of that site. It will walk you through connection of the screen, simple HMI file editing, creation of the tft file, and uploading it to the screen.

Yes, I am. I download files from the Nextion MMDVM Facebook site and upload them to my screen. But they don't respond. The only ones that respond are the three in the Pi-Star pull-down menu.

I have a 3.5" basic screen. Using Pi-Star. Say, for example, I'm using the layout created by PD0DIB or another like it. What Pi-star config setting do I use?

It depends on the layout creator which setting the layout uses. Most are made for ON7LDS(3).

If the screen is developed for the Nextion, you have to know which "basic field" are used:
* The G4KLX templates do have the basic fields and needs the G4KLX screenlayout setting (type 0 or 1 in mmdvm.ini)
* the ON7LDS basic screens has added the ip-addres field and you have to set ON7LDS (type 2 in mmdvm.ini)
* the ON7LDS Talker Alias screens ahs added TA in a automatically scaled font, you have to set ON7LDS L3 (or type 3 in mmdvm.ini)
* If you are using the Nextion Driver from ON7LDS, you have to set it too on ON7LDS (type 3 in mmdvm.ini)

All screens work with G4KLX settings, but then it isn't support the extra's by ON7LDS-type screens

The setting in Pi-Star ON7LDS L3HS is only usuable if you have set the com port on 1152000 baud

I think I would have trouble for "ME", trying to program a Nextion screen from scratch. I am wanting to build my own Hotspot for permanent use in my shack, (I already have one for portable use), so having a screen as large and with as much information as possible would be great. If I buy a 4.3 (example) Nextion screen, what do I need to get find or look for to have a Nextion screen work with Pi-star, 4.1 version, 8 July.
