HD 44780 wiring detail with Pi -3B+ or Pi Zero ?

Post by k6xox »

Anyone please give me the detail of wiring MMDVM+PI-3B board to the LCD HD44780 as I found on the forum, I did try wiring them as posted but it seems nothing worked.

Hi, I have , some how, the same issue!!
I have wired the LCD display according to the information retried from this site:

https://github.com/g4klx/MMDVMHost/blob ... ME.HD44780

I'm running a new clean installation of Pi-Star on a Raspberry Pi2B+ with DVmega single band (UHF) pi-hat.
After I had done all the updates/upgrades, the hotspot it running 100%.

I would like to add one LCD 16X2, 20X4 or 40X2. I have some of those in stock, I would like to give the some use!!

Now, In Ssh I can't compile the "programe"

make clean Output
[email protected](ro):~$ rpi-rw
[email protected](rw):~$ sudo make clean
make: *** No rule to make target 'clean'. Stop.
[email protected](rw):~$

make -f Makefile.Pi.HD44780 output

[email protected](rw):~$ sudo make -f Makefile.Pi.HD44780
make: Makefile.Pi.HD44780: No such file or directory
make: *** No rule to make target 'Makefile.Pi.HD44780'. Stop.
[email protected](rw):~$

additional info:

[email protected](rw):~$ gpio -v
gpio version: 2.52
Copyright (c) 2012-2018 Gordon Henderson
This is free software with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY.
For details type: gpio -warranty

Raspberry Pi Details:
Type: Pi 2, Revision: 01, Memory: 1024MB, Maker: Sony
* Device tree is enabled.
*--> Raspberry Pi 2 Model B Rev 1.1
* This Raspberry Pi supports user-level GPIO access.

any help is appreciated!!

In order to compile software with make you need to be inside the directory that contains the file named Makefile.

You also don't have to compile MMDVMHost to get a HD44780 working in pi-star just select it from the MMDVM display list, and wire it up correctly.
If someones previous actions are any indication of their future actions, then I predict the deletion and removal of access will happen at any moment. 7-11-2020.

Hi again,

yes, I have notice to do the make, I need to go to the MMDVM directory!!
But still no luck!!
How can I check the gpio is corrected config, or how do I know the pins used on my pi-star?

The pins should be the same as what are documented in the link you posted.

I really don't have any experience doing what you are trying to do.

This guy got one to work, but his uses i2c.
