Firmware update problem

Post by oz1cbk »

Hi.
I just run sudo pistar-mmdvmhshatflash hs_hat on my Pi with Zumspot.
It have run FW 1.4.16 on ZumSpot for a long time, but after update it looks like it will send the option line again and again.
And stations dont come to the radio anymore. Show up on Nextion display.
Is it a error in the update file ? Or what can I do to get it work again ?

pi-star@pi-star(rw):MMDVM_HS$ cd scripts
./install_fw_rpi.sh

I believe you have used the incorrect firmware for a true zumspot board. If indeed you have the official zumspot board then you use the command:
sudo pistar-zumspotflash rpi
I think you can just reflash the zumspot firmware with the correct one and it will fix your problem.

I used this command and it it a true ZUMSpot: sudo pistar-mmdvmhshatflash hs_hat
I think you can just reflash the zumspot firmware with the correct one and it will fix your problem.
And after this:
rpi-rw
git clone https://github.com/juribeparada/MMDVM_HS
pi-star@pi-star(rw):~$ cd MMDVM_HS
pi-star@pi-star(rw):MMDVM_HS$ cd scripts
./install_fw_rpi.sh
it works fine again, so maybe Your right.

./install_fw_rpi.sh
KE7FNS wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2019 6:54 am That is just another more involved way of flashing a ZUMSpot. The other command would of not required a download of all the files and the time spent compiling it. It would of just loaded the precompiled ones made available by pi-star.
I use it with Pi-Star, and just want to upgrade the firmware.

I also have a bord from Germany fron Florian, and I cant update that either.

So what is the right update for both of the boards ?

KE7FNS wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:35 am Now, that the ZUMSpot is out of the way, the board by Florian, requires a different firmware, but the issue is, I cannot tell you which command to use because you haven't given me enough information to determine it. Is it a duplex, what TXO crystal does it use?
Either way, the instructions for that board are here:https://github.com/phl0/MMDVM_HS
The link says:
Adaptation of MMDVM firmware for ZUMSpot (ADF7021)
and it looks like you have to do the compile. I have not learn to du that by myself.
The board is single and TCXO is 14.7456 MHz

Code: Select all

sudo pistar-mmdvmhshatflash hs_hat
Do you see now, how you ran the wrong command to install the firmware in the ZUMSpot board in your very first post in this thread?
No, I am so confused. I have tryed this:

Code: Select all

sudo pistar-mmdvmhshatflash hs_hat
and both board is 14.7456 MHz
On both board, and it dont work. So I'm looking after the right way to do it on both.

I must learn to compile to get it to work ? Maybe I have til write in Danish in Google Translate to explain.
I have the langue and to little knowledge to get over, sorry.

Thank You for trying to help me.

I have made a .PDF file when I try with Florin's board. It is attached here. I hope You can see what is wrong.

Ole.

Hmm, I have to zip the file to send it.

If you get that error on both board - it's not the firmware nut the board itself (mostly)

"Failed to Init Device" does not mean wrong firmware (even though on a Zumboard it would be.

Please try what is suggested here several time

On the WHITE Zumspot Zumboard use:

sudo pistar-zumspotflash rpi

you may still get that "Failed to init device" message as I get that all the time.

Look for JP1 in lower right corner of the board and see if it has a glob of solder on it or is it "clean" (you will see it as two pads with a small break in the middle. This jeeds to be "jumpered" (both halves connected) and try again.

For the Florian Board (color varies ) you need to use the one you are trying the ZUmboard with:

sudo pistar-mmdvmhshatflash hs_hat

Again you may see the "Failed to Init Device" Error, again look for a JP1 somewhere on the board and be sure both halves are connected, and try again.

My thing is, If it isn't broke - don't fix it (unless there is a new feature in the firmware you absolutely cannot live without)

I wish you luck

KE7FNS wrote: Wed Jun 12, 2019 6:39 pm I don't see anything that looks wrong in what you are doing or the settings displayed. Sometimes you just have to run the flash command a few times in a row until it cooperates, I am not sure what causes that, but its nothing you are doing.
Thank You very, very much. And thanks to Kevin also.

I have seen before. Do the job more than one.
I did this 2 times and:
