E: 2018-06-07 01:15:37.873 Unable to read the firmware version after six attempts
So I dont know if that normal or what Im missing here. I assume this is referring to the firmware on the zumspot? How do I get it to be able to read the firmware?

Full power off the Pi (remove the power cable) and power it back up, make sure the modem selection is correct, if you are sure on all of those - then make sure that you re-flash the modem with the correct firmware, cross-flashing a Zumspot with MMDVM_HS firmware for example can result in some odd behaviour.
Thanks for the replies.
I flashed it using pistar-zumspotflash just now. And it completed fine, didnt show any errors. After reboot its still showing the same error. I have it set to
'Zumspot Raspberry pi hat (GPIO)' in the configuration. Is there anything I can do to diag whats going wrong besides the logs?
Thanks.

Usually when this is seen, pins 38 and 40 aren't connected to the hat.. I'd check to make sure they are, and that they are properly soldered.

No it has not. Been bashing my head into a wall since I recieved it. Wishing I knew about the MMDVM_HS_Hat now, would've bought that instead.
Maybe it's time to ask the seller for a replacement... sounds like you may have received a defective unit.
