Lost Access to DSTAR Network

Post by k3xl » Thu Feb 07, 2019 4:09 pm

I have been running Pi-Star 3.4.17 on a RPi 3 for just over a year. On Feb 3 just after midnight my hotspot was dropped from the DSTAR network and I can't get it to reconnect. I didn't make any changes on my end. Everything looks correct on the LAN side. I have no problem communicating with the hotspot, it just won't connect to the DSTAR network. I am out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Tnx,
Brad

Have you examined the various Pi-Star log file (for simplicity -- do this after a reboot, so there won't be too much crud in them)

Code: Select all

[email protected](ro):~$ ls -l /var/log/pi-star
total 9916
-rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 1133496 Feb 7 18:26 Headers.log
-rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 3733444 Feb 6 18:59 ircDDBGateway-2019-02-06.log
-rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 3692182 Feb 7 18:28 ircDDBGateway-2019-02-07.log
-rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 91 Feb 7 03:31 Links.log

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 695928 Feb 7 18:26 MMDVM-2019-02-07.log

Thank you for your suggestion.

I have a log file for MMDVM, which looks normal.
It reflects the correct configuration.
The last line says MMDVMHost-20181107_Pi-Star is running.

I do not have a log file for ircDDBGateway which I would have expected.
Other than the missing log file, I don't see anything unusual that indicates why it is not connecting to D-Star Net.

What is displayed when you query the ircddbgateway status?

Code: Select all

pi-star$ systemctl status ircddbgateway
● ircddbgateway.service - ircDDBGateway Radio Servce
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/ircddbgateway.service; disabled)

  Process: 26576 ExecStop=/usr/local/sbin/ircddbgateway.service stop (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
  Process: 26730 ExecStart=/usr/local/sbin/ircddbgateway.service start (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
 Main PID: 26755 (ircddbgatewayd)
   CGroup: /system.slice/ircddbgateway.service
           └─26755 /usr/local/bin/ircddbgatewayd -daemon

Wouldn't let me start the service:

[email protected](ro):~$ systemctl start ircddbgateway
Failed to start ircddbgateway.service: Access denied

Try using sudo -- changing running services requires root privileges which the normal login does not have...

Good thought. No luck, though:

[email protected](ro):~$ sudo systemctl start ircddbgateway
Job for ircddbgateway.service failed. See 'systemctl status ircddbgateway.service' an
d 'journalctl -xn' for details.

I am not sure where to find 'journalctl -xn'

Well, I gave up trying to debug the problem and took the brute force approach. I flashed a new SD card and we're now back on the air with a fresh image. Thanks to all for your help.

It's just another command available to root...

Code: Select all

[email protected](ro):~$ sudo journalctl -xn

Should we file a bug report for that spelling? ircDDBGateway Radio Servce
