Update MMDVMHost to latest version

Post by SP2ONG » Sun Mar 10, 2019 2:29 pm

I am asking for MMDVMHost updates in the pi-star distro 3.4.17 to the latest version of MMDVMHost and adding the RemoteCommand software from the MMDVMHost package so that we can send local messages via POCSAG use RemoteCommand. This command to send message to Pager was added to MMDVMHost in January 2019

What is the latest version? I have vn 1.4.16 loaded. Is there a later version than that?

Yes available, but I asked about MMDVMHost updates which among other things will be able to send a command via the RemoteComnad program (part of MMDVMHost) not only to send info do pager but another command to MMDVMHost. You did not know about RemoteCommand?

No, but I think your question is better posed in the context of Pi-Star 4.x. ...

I am sorry, but I understand why I should ask in the context of Pi-Star 4.x, which has the status of testing, the current official release of the Pi-star is 3.4.xx I am asking to update only MMDVMHost in this distribution.

I think Version 4 is suggested because that is where current development is. 3.1.x is stable and updating parts of it without testing might break something else. MMDVMHost is a major part of the image. Enhancing the older image doesn't make much sense when it is going to be replaced soon.

If you really need the capability now, there are other images with "bleeding edge" capability where you can update the software on your own schedule.

I too would like to see some other components updated, but for the price (Free), I can wait. I have been down the road of building my own image. every update of anything breaks something. Until then, the Beta of Version 4 seems to work fine and I think it's probably almost ready to go on every Hotspot and repeater.

The update will come in time, generally PS holds a release or two behind current MMDVM status. In both Sticking with ideals of the tried and tested, and pertaining to available dev. time in a world where everything in life seems to make demands on ur time.

However.
As with everything you have choices...
if ur need is great learn how something is done and go for it and update the software urself, or create a vanilla MMDVM install. Or
pay someone $$$$ who has the knowledge, to do it for you.

if you choose neither of the above, practice patience until its done for you, for no cost to you.
