Updated PS to 4.0 no TX or RX HELP !!

Post by G8CVF » Fri May 24, 2019 10:10 am

Hi all

Things were great with the old software but looking at W1MSG's Youtube decided to upgrade to Ver 4.0 Oh Dear !!

I have lost it seems both Receive AND Transmit thought is could be Offsets require changing (for some reason) but after 2 million resets have given up. Question: is there something in the Upgrade I am missing or is it just an overwrite of the original, in DESPERATION I have even tried writing 4.0 to another SD Card now given up.

CQ CQ CQ 2 meters - it's coming quickly.

Thanks for your help.

As with any problem, start by examining the log files ... they tell you exactly what is happening.

My guess is the frequency you are using is in the satellite area of the band. On the dashboard, if the background of the frequency setting is red, it won't work.

I seem to have lost the log files obviously they where not saved hence not being able to find the ideal offsets when trying a NEW card installation however I do remember terrible difficulty finding the offsets a long time ago when installing this DVM I have another MMDVM which was no problem.

I’ll probably go back to 3.4. THANKS

Hi Peter,

From the Admin view, you can select the Live Logs view, which starts a more detailed live logging process that can be useful for troubleshooting. It can be helpful to open Live Logs view in a new tab or a different browser so you can look back and forth between the dashboard and the log.

There also are more specific logs you can check in the /var/log directory:
  • For example, there are specific logs for ircDDBGateway, MMDVM, etc. in:

    Code: Select all

    var/log/pi-star/
To see a list of the logs available, log into Pi-Star via SSH and type:

    Code: Select all

    ls -l /var/log/pi-star
  • For the overnight updates: /var/log/unattended-upgrades/unattended-upgrades.log.
Hint: There's a link at the bottom of Live Logs view to download it as a text file. Key: D = Debug; M = Message; I = Info.

And just a general FYI:

The log files are in RAM and do not survive reboot/power-cycle. If one intends to view the logs, it has to be during the session in question.
