Short version is that I will kill off Pi-Star v4 in favour of 4.1 within a shorter time span than usual, but the good news is that the early move to Raspbian Buster should make for a much longer life for Pi-Star 4.1

Please note - I am NOT going to yank the rug from under you if you happen to be using 4.0 - you will get a decent amount of time to move over.
I expect early beta images to be available before the end of the week.
Pi-Star V4.1.0-RC1 running on Pi4, 50C while doing nothing, I think we are all going to need heatsinks - even the new dash won't cure that!

While it's always exciting to see a new RPi model come out, this one doesn't sound like an ideal solution for a personal, low-power hotspot. It requires a 3.0A power supply and it puts out a lot of heat! Fans likely are going to be mandatory, especially in a case.

Yes, this board gets warm, warmer than its predecessor. Thermal images mirror what we experienced; the areas of the board near the CPU get really warm, not just the top of the processor itself. The Pi 4 board reaches a toasty 74.5 degrees Celsius (166 degrees Fahrenheit). That’s not enough for a serious burn, but kids especially should be sure to pick up the Pi by its sides only. The top surface of the Pi 3 B+ is much cooler, maxing out at 62.5 degrees Celsius (144.6 degrees Fahrenheit).

And I thought the 3B+ ran too hot!

I think the RPi 3A+ is going to remain my favorite RPi for personal hotspots. That said, it does sound like it'll be a great little board for a computer in the shack. And regardless, I'm looking forward to using it to test with Pi-Star 4.1.x. I ordered a 1GB model to test with a hotspot and a 2GB model to test as my shack computer. Fun times!

I've got a Pi4B 4gb on order, but my local supplier won't have stock until around the 8th July but once I get it I'll be able to assist with the testing of 4.1

So moving forward, are you saying that version 4.1 won't run on older hardware? Or am I reading this wrong?

4.1 will be back to an eventual release candidate 0/1/... and people currently using 3B+ boards (which won't run with 3.x) may want to stay with the current 4.0RC<whatever> until 4.1 reaches the same level of development.

Time to buy a few more SD cards so I can configure one with today's NOOBS release and eventually recreate my web-server machine using Buster rather than Stretch.

{And wait for AdaFruit to get the 4GB PI4 in stock -- though I bet NOOBS still installs only a 32-bit build}

My guess is that it will almost certainly run on older hardware, same as the current 4.0.x does, but once 4.1.x is up and running, eventually 4.0.x will no longer be supported.
