Pi-Star not connecting to Talk Groups

Post by w2eck »

Relatively new to DMR, so not quite sure how to ask this. But I initially had the my Zum spot working find and linking up with various talk groups but for some reason that it is not working now. Now the ZumSpot is connecting to my home network, but does not connect to the selected the Talk Group I have selected on my radio. Radio is a MD-UV380, pc is Win 10. Have a screen shot of current Pi-Star dashboard but not sure how to include here. When I Tx on the radio, it is showing up on Dashboard. Suspect I have some setting wrong in Pi-Star, but not sure where to look. Any ideas??

I have an MD-UV380 too. Perhaps these notes -- http://w2xq.com/bm-ar-dmr.html#uv380-notes -- may be of assistance.

It is a bit difficult to diagnose your failure to connect to talkgroups. Some ideas.

1. Change your DMR Master to a different server. I opted to go offshore to a European server as the USA servers appeared to be having recent problems.

2. Are you using the Pi-Star v4.0 rc4 software? If not, perhaps do so.

3. If you are still using v3.4.1x see https://amateurradionotes.com/pi-star-updates.htm for notes on going to v4.

4. I used v4 early on (from Jan) and had to install a new image in May. The connection was continually erratic. Wiping the card and installing a new image, adding the backed up config ZIP file, fixed the problem. I hypothesize the overnight updates pushed out overnight for ~4 months caused the problem. (I use a Sandisk 16gb Class 10 card.)

HTH a bit.

P.S. The little chainlink icon -- to the right in the icons beginning with B -- atop the message window will insert images.

Tom - thanks for the reply and the tips
1) I am still running 3.4.17, so will look at the notes u sent and do the upgrade
2) You said u changed DMR Master to a differnet server - I am not quite sure how to do that. Is that under Pi-Star - Config--General Configuration ? where I now have http://www.mw0mwz.co.uk/pi-star/??
3) I am trying to connect to the TGIF Network
4) I see the chain link for adding pics but I have jpg screen shots and it's looking for a url, so may need a tip on how to address that for pic. Think me adding some screen shots might help explain my problem

tnx again for the response

I think you'll find the v4 to be worthy of the upgrade.

Whether staying on Brandmeister or going to TGIF, you have to get to the configuration page. From the Dashboard, go to the Configuration "tab" and log in. Unless you have changed the defaults, user is "pi-star" and password is "raspberry" and the configuration page will display.

As to TGIF, I can't help. You might look at these links (in no particular order):
