pi-star 4.1.x and 4.0.x Parrot not working

Post by KN6CXC »

Hello,

My DMR radio is a GD-77 from Radioddity

On pi-star 4.1.x
- first symptom is that I have to push PPT several times to transmit from the radio to the hotspot
On pi-star 4.0.x the symptom described above does not exist

On both most talkgroups works flawless ! But I can't get Parrot 9990 to work. I tried all possible ways that Google can suggest to configure the Parrot channel.
I can see from the dashboard from pi-star (on both 4.1.x and 4.0.x) that I'm transmitting to Parrot, I can see that Parrot is transmitting back but no audio comes out of the radio.

on a pi3 B (not B+) I used pi-star 3.7.4 and it works flawless ! Parrot works, no issues with PPT, I guess pi-star 4.1.x and 4.0.x are broken on DMR.
My MMDVM is a duplex :
# pistar-findmodem
Detected MMDVM_HS (GPIO): /dev/ttyAMA0 (MMDVM_HS_Dual_Hat-v1.4.16 20190211 14.7456MHz dual ADF7021 FW by CA6JAU GitID #8cf46ca)

For DSTAR no issues on pi-star 4.1.x and 4.0.x and 3.7.4 - I'm using a Kenwood TH D74A for DSTAR

Any suggestions ?

4.0 and 4.1 are not broken. Parrot is a private talkgroup o brandmeister that has nothing to do with pi-star. Make sure the group type is set to private on parrot...not public.

This is what puzzles me.

on Pi-star 3.7.4 I have no issues, Parrot 9990 works without any problems.
on Pi-star 4.1.x and 4.0.x Parrot 9990 does not work

I attached the configuration of my CPS for the GD-77.

When I use the Unlink to unlink from talkgroups, I get an audio feedback like "Not linked" that is market as a private call on my radio.
When using Parrot, I don't receive the audio feedback, it is marked a group call - and I can listen to all Parrot tests from all other people that tried to do a Parrot test like if I were in a talkgroup.

Another symptom that I noticed on pi-star 4.1.0 RC3 I have to key my radio several times until it can connect to the hotspot (like 5-6 times pushing the PPT to transmit)
on pi-star 4.0.0 RC4 this symptom does not exist (same is valid for pi-star 3.7.4)

Yes... you need to make it a *Private Call* That's why it isn't working.

First off, Pi-Star rocks - Thanks to the team for all your hard work!

I have the same problem here after upgrading to 4.1.0-RC3. My hotspot, an RPi-Zero & ZUMspot (w/latest FW) works just fine and has been working fine after reboot. However, with the new RC, after an undetermined time away the hotspot will not respond to a Parrot 9990 call. Recycling power fixes the issue. Hmmm... Yes, the radios are programmed correctly as is the hotspot. The only change has been upgrading to 4.1.0-RC3. Curious to find out what is causing the HS to not be responsive after several hours.

Thanks,

Following the advices to create a private contact for Parrot (9990) actually solved the issue.
I swear Parrot would work as a groupcall before! The only change I did was to move from a Pi3 B using pi-star 3.7.4 to a Pi3 B+ using Pi-star 4.1.x RC3 (or 4.0.0 RC4).
After that Parrot would not work as a groupcall anymore. Setting as a private contact fixed the issue on the GD-77.
Thank you everyone!

Malcolm - I will get my 4.1.0 RC3 back on (was using 4.0.0 R4) and try to replicate your issue.

I can't reach the BrandMeister wiki right now, but Parrot has always been a private call. Here's the snippet from search:
Parrot - BrandMeister
[Search domain wiki.brandmeister.network/index.php/Parrot] https://wiki.brandmeister.network/index.php/Parrot
Parrot Application for doing a echo test through a private call to ID 9990. The recorded voice (max 90 seconds by default, configured BrandMeister.conf ) will be played back to the user.
