MMDVMHost vs. DSTAR Repeater

I am setting up a new DSTAR repeater using a Repeater-Builder RB_STM32_DVM. The hardware is fully assembled (modified Motorola UHF MICOR running 50 watts). The system will be located at our local medical center.

Initially, I tried running in DSTAR Repeater mode but could not get it to work. Switched to MMDVMHost and all appears good.

Admittedly, I haven't spent a lot of time research this; time has been short lately. Can someone please educate me?

Dstar Repeater mode is used with a GMSK modem and your Pi.
MMDVMHost is for use with multimode type boards and your Pi.

What you found by experimenting is correct.

The dstarrepeater configuration setup was mostly left in to continue backward compatibility for legacy dstar hardware like the dvap dongle, DVRPTR cards and as mentioned above gmsk modems from the likes of Dutch star and Moencom.

If you have intent using a MMDVM device it needs to be setup using pi-star's MMDVM configuration setup.
