Install Package instead of image

Is it possible to install the pistar packages into an existing raspberry setup? I have resorted to a separate image setup but I cannot find anywhere where someone has apt-get the pistar packages and run their raspi for other things while the pistar modem is running.

No. Pistar isn't a package. Its only available as an image.
