Final configuration of my Pi-Star

Post by VE2NGQ »

I am new to the P1-Star and my JUmbo Hot Spot
Looking for assistance in configuring

Alinco MD 5, Pi-Star V4.1.2

Question #1
I believe that my Hot Spot seems to be working as I can see the the transition between Tx & Rx when I key my radio,
Except I can not Tx or RX with my radio.
When on Pi-Star's Dashboard,
I can see my activity within the Gateway & Local RF sections.
I suspect that the issue is geared towards the " Trx box" under Radio Info in Dashboard.

Trx: When you press the radio's PTT button it should go from its "Listening" status to
"Rx DMR" and then I should see TX DMR Slot 2.
It is the Tx DMR Slot 2 position that does not occur.
I have no idea what to look for in my configuration section.
Question #2
In the DMR Configuration section They ask for the HotSpot Security password.
The only password that I have is the password required to log in to the Brandmeister site
or the new security psssword to use Brandmeistr in the States. Is it one of these 2??

Question #3
In the Wireless configuration:
I have 2 networks listed:
Network 1 is my home wifi number assigned to me by my carrier.

The issue that I have is Network 0:
it shows a SSID # 888888-2G
I have no idea as to it application or where it comes from.
It requires a PSK password which i have no idea .where to fund it/
Thanking you in advance

I think it should only show Rx DMR when PTT is active. If it goes further, I'd expect Rx DMR Slot 2, not Tx. Tx is when the hotspot is sending to your radio. At least, I didn't see anything but Rx DMR during PTT held long enough to register on Gateway/Local activity.

That question really needs to be answered by the Brandmeister web site, if they have servers that don't require the separate security password.

I presume you refer to the router's WiFi SSID, and I would hope that requires a PSK, otherwise it is wide open to anyone who can see the SSID (as that is normally broadcast by the router to make the router "findable".

Any decent router should have a configuration page that would allow you to change the SSID though it may not be worth the effort.

The issue that I have is Network 0:
it shows a SSID # 888888-2G
I have no idea as to it application or where it comes from.

That appears to be the demo SSID used in https://www.ailunce.com/blog/WiFi-confi ... ex-Hotspot(underscore is mine)
WiFi configuration Quickly start guide(Only suit for Simplex DMR Hotspot sell by Ailunce
A product that seems to no longer be available as that link comes up blank except the the common site header/footer
The default WiFi profile is below:
SSID:888888-2G
password: 0123456789
Just delete it...

I would like to thank you for your quick reply. It is appreciated.

I also have a borrowed hot spot - i now have the 2 hot spots set up to two seperate computers.
The working hot spot changes from Listening to Rx DMR when the PTT is pressed. after its release it does read in red
TX DMR Slot 2.
the unit that I am having trouble with does NOT go to TX DMR slot 2.

Although i see these changes on Pi-Star Dashboard, I have NO incoming or out going signal to my radio.
It appears that the radio and Hot Spot are not talking to each other.

The other two questions Thanks, you gave me the info to clear these.

I look forward to hearing from you .

First , pls accept my apologizes . I had the radio & Hot spot going in the wrong direction.
I have double checked my settings and they all seem ok.

I questioned why you were sending me over to the “MMDVCAL” section.
Why was I checking my “BER#” in this location when I see it in Dashboard after every time I key the radio, The last reading was “0.2%”

I followed your direction and came across a confusing number.

It states enter E or e which allows you to set the freq.
it read 433000000
My operating freq is 433.550mhz (as noted in Dashboard & config sections)
I changed the freq but i could not see a place where to save it.
These frequencies were entered by the factory.
The factory programmed the complete program not just the basic program that is normally supplied by a factory.

Just a reminder, I have no signal either in or out of the hot spot.

Sorry for questions I am new to this activity,

Ref your paragraph Starting with MMDVMCAL…….
Then you say When you exit……..
When I entered my freq, the next screen was the program’s menu.
I never got to see the configuration settings
How/where do i proceed after the freq. entry.
I mis understood, i would appreciate clarification.

I realize that keying the radio did get picked up by the Hot Spot.
What I meant was that there is no communication from here on.

I have confirmed that the right control software is entered.
Likewise with the radio/modem.
I will wait for your feedback.
I thank you for your help & patience

Location is Montreal.
It was programmed in China, did not update that entry.
I did something and I am in deep trouble now:
1, Hot Spot no longer boots up completely.
2. at one point ! saw "CLOSE" on the hot Spot's screen. no idea as to what it refers to
3 I notice that .Details are now missing from the confiq. section.
4 I entered the missing components and received the following messages:

Working: stopping services & applying your confiq, changes
Error: unable to read source confiq (files).....
please wait a few moments % try again.

5. After a few moments , I get another "notice" telling me
The modem selection has been updated
Please re enter your modem from the list.
6. At this point I am going around in circles.
I do not know the next move.

Thank you for your help.
I am ready to give-up completely.
Nothing seems to be working.
I downloaded the program off the pi_star web site, flashed 2 cards.
The base program did not boot up. Using the software program "Fing"
I do not see an IP address. There is no connection between hot Spot & my Mac.

I have a friend's working Hot Spot with me as well.
I feel uncomfortable in cloning his card. first not familiar, & when i did a
basic search all i saw was partioning and cloning the hard drive.

If you have an easy way, I will give it a try although my history with this program is not the
greatest.
Thanks for your guidance & patience

I thank you for your assistance. I believe that i am at the end of the road
I had a Hot Spot that was functional but still needed final configuration to have it 100%.
I made a mistake in one of the steps of configuration. So it did not surprise me
when you said that the card was corrupt.
I downloaded Pi-Star's program & then flashed it.
Hot Spot did not boot up and I could not locate it's IP Address .
I had borrowed a working Hot Spot. I removed it's sd card and inserted
into the questionable hot spot.

Now it appears that the Hot Spot itself is not working as it did not boot up or could i locate it's IP Address.

I thank you again for your help.It is greatly appreciated
