Thats a pretty good solution - I was pondering doing something similar, but you did the work already - thank you.

Is it confirmed that the 4.1.5 image now available for download is without the loop issue?

No is the answer Eric, in my experience. I have just tried an UPDATE and lost contact with the Pi.
Guess I will have to rewrite the card :(
Following the yellow banner at the top of the screen told me that I had the most recent version, 4.1.4.

I've just managed to update 4 Pi-Star hotspots at home and one repeater remotely via the yellow banner update link.
All 5 are now showing version 4.1.5 and operating as they should (but I'll keep monitoring).
I've also setup a 5th hotspot with a fresh image (v 4.1.5) having not used it in a few months.

Sorted. Well at least I have the the Pi reconnected to the outside world!
It's surprising how quickly I miss it when it stops!
Still got the "new version" reminders at top of screen.

Which means you need to run sudo pistar-upgrade

I still had the message at the top of the screen too after upgrading. All I did was switch to a different screen ( I switched from Admin to Dashboard and back ) and the message at the top went away.

Hi Folks,

I too had the original looping problem when I tried to update/upgrade Tuesday 22 June.

I am not sure now as to the order I tried with the Update/Upgrade, but once in the loop the only way out was to "pull the plug!" "Ctrl C" just did not do the job of exiting!

So I went through the process of manually down loading the June version, loading with my back up, all seemed to load OK, but when I tested my system there seemed to be a problem and it did not respond to my radio etc.

So, I went back to first principles from where I knew my system last worked OK, formatted the SD card and did a "clean install of the V4.1.4 Feb 21, did a manual configuration and tested my system and all was well. Decided to "leave all alone as it is working" for the Tuesday.

So on Wednesday early afternoon local time, (approx 0500UTC) I thought i would have another look up Upgrading?

My main Pi-Star hot spot is based on a Raspberry Pi 3 A+, RobotDF UPS board with 4000mAh battery, LoneStar duplex board, a Nextion 3.5" display running Nextion Drivers.

This time I followed the process in this order, I ran Update, when system rebooted, then ran Upgrade, when system rebooted, then ran Update again.

All worked and all Update/Upgrades went well with no problems.

With that success in place I then ran the Update/Upgrade on my, two Pi Zero/LoneStar simplex units, another RPi3 A+ / LoneStar simplex / 2.8" Nextion and my original Pi-Star hot spot on a RPi 3B, Jumbo modem hat and 3.5" Nextion.

They all upgraded without any issues, so from my point of view, I am now happy as all my systems are now about as up to date as I can get and they all work as to be expected.

So thank you very much to all who have contributed to both the ongoing service of Pi-Star and for the ongoing help with the continuous improvements and updates.

Regards and 73,
