Freq Range

Post by KR4GQ »

This info is not posted on any of the DVMega websites for ordering the boards including Amazon or GigaParts ..I just recently put one of these
kits together with the current Pi-Star image.. When configuring your pi-star setup for your operating freqs , use 430 - 440 mhz this is the
range ...not sure what the dual band boards freqs operate at, perhaps someone might have info on those.. saving some grief for first time
users of these boards... 73-- KR4GQ

I think some of the firmware for the DV-Mega can limit them to 430-440MHz, but if you don't have the Japan firmware on them I think they will operate outside that range.

I just returned a DVMega back to Gigaparts as “defective” - I was trying 440.950 and 445.550 - which both would have been within specs as published. Now I fear I just wasted time and money by not trying a different frequency. 😵

I did the same thing..sent one back to Gigaparts..they sent it out back to me on Thursday...cost me a total of $36 shipping for both ways with insurance ...notified the Gigaparts service rep that it would be good idea to publish the freq range or put a note in box when shipping kits out..thats why I put up
a heads up post on this board ...

That's so weird - I exchanged at least three different emails with them about the DVMega board - how I'm using it with Pi-Star, configuration, etc. You think they would have mentioned the frequency range before giving me a return authorization number. Now I don't want the old one back - wonder if they'll just give me a refund (minus the "restocking" fee, of course). I'm no longer a GigaParts fan. :cry:

I'm sad that I only discovered this forum the day after I sent the DVMega back to GigaParts!

For what it's worth, I have a two year old DVMega, firmware version 2.29 installed on a much older Raspberry Pi 1 Model B+, running MMDVMHost compiled back in August 2016. It works perfectly fine on 445.550 Mhz. Ok, I'm done talking about this now. :D

I have 2 dual band megas on PI-3B. One is on 446.050 and the other is on 446.075. Both have worked without any issues for over 2-1/2 years now. Both were 2.29 and operating at those frequencies with an older version of Maryland Dstar. I upgraded both megas and now use pi-star. No issues at all. Had to upgrade the boards to do multi mode, which also works fine.

Freq Range
2M = 144.00 / 146.00
70cm = 430.00 / 440.00

But can go out of freq range!

Thanks for the information! I'd suggest that the DVMega website and Owners Manuals be updated with that also. I'm seeing lots of vendors that sell this board as listing the frequency range as something different than that.
