Are hotspot frequencies know?

Post by G6ULX » Thu Apr 26, 2018 8:39 pm

Just wondering if the frequency of personal hotspots are known to other users when transmitting or at a later date from information stored wherever online?

The position/ Freq. of the install is not relayed through RF, but users with GPS enabled radios could be sending their coordinates out to other users who's radios can display that info.

The install will have its Freq and position shown via the aprs i.s system so It could be known to those using the interwebs who either happen to stumble across you whilst looking on an APRS map site, or search ur callsign on an APRS/ DPRS site.

Here's an example of what's shown on APRS.fi prob. the most commonly known site to those using APRS/ DPRS...

https://brandmeister.network/?page=hotspots

yes on the Brandmeister network you can list active hotspots and search by callsign.

so yes the info is out on the net I see you are on 439.075 MHz

Check with ARRL if you are in the USA, WIA if in Australia, RSGB if in the UK for the best choice of frequencies with you licence in mind.

Also the networks that you connect to receive the position / frequency information, I cant answer the question of if/how long they store that.

I see some entries on my call at APRS.fi with an age of 230 days and older...

Thats not a pi-star issue. You will need to talk to the APRS.FI people regarding that one

HELLO!

I have a ZUM spot running NXDN, RAN 9, Apache Junction, AZ.
I am on TG65000, but hearing NO activity, and I can not access anything, either.
TX/RX on 449.700, RAN code 9.
I began setting up a Brandmeister account, but not active on that currently, so please ignore it.
One thing at a time I suppose, and NXDN is the option I decided upon.

Here is the plan I have, the updates have been performed, and indicates I am up to date, but I am still down.

Everything on the internet is saved someplace. The only way to control what is saved is not putting the data on the internet or a device connected to the internet.
