DMR->D-Star issues

Post by N8PWM »

Hi all,

I am trying to setup pi-star to allow me to connect from DMR to D-Star XLX625, I have setup my pi-star as I think it should be. I have attached a screenshot of my configuration.

My radio (AnyTone D868) has a TG6 setup and I have TG's setup for 64000, 64001, 64002, 64003, 64004 and 64005.

The radio has a zone containing TG6 and an RX group and channel for the same. I am able to hear stations when I select the TG and link to it on the radio. I receive a linked confirmation and I see that it is linked in Pi-Star. I can even see it on the XLX625 dashboard. It properly shows whichever peer (A-E) that I have linked.

The issue is that when I try to transmit, nothing appears to be getting through to the D-Star side. I am sure I am on TG6 and I see that in Pi-Star on the dashboard. The XLX625 dashboard does not show that I am transmitting, only that I have linked to the peer.

Also, if I switch back to say DMR TG91 (Worldwide), I am not making it to the DMR network. This has always worked fine. Now I am not being heard.

I am a bit lost in the D-Star world as I am deep into DMR.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and 73 de Craig N8PWM

I solved the DMR side. I needed to enable the Brandmeister network. Still not able to transmit to the D-Star side.

I did register on D-Star. I verified that my call is showing up.

I started with the Peanut app and that is working fine. Do I need to do something with my registration to have my radio/hotspot work?

It is not possible to do a dmr to dstar. Mmdvms don't work that way. They'd need an AMBE chip.

What about systems like XLX313 that are transcoding. My understanding is that this should work.

64000, 64001, 64002 etc. are called by dialing private calls not as TG's.

Onced dialed, leave the radio on tg6 to talk through.

FYI, if D-STAR cross modes are important to you, the *************** includes an onboard AMBE chip and can handle hardware-based D-STAR transcoding.

Your still using DMR. XLX accepts both DMR and DSTAR connections, the additional hardware ran on the server setup is what permits the crossover between modes, so dmr users will enter using DMR and DSTAR users will enter using DSTAR, that doesn't change. The network traffic will always be the mode ur using.

There's no requirement to register for XLX. Only Dplus (REF reflectors) ask you to register.

Also if you running the tg6 setup that works with dmrgateway. So ensure you have dmrgateway running as ur choosen server.

Does XLX625 provide transcoding? Maybe contact the sysop to confirm. Or is it possible that ambed had failed during the time that you were attempting to use it?
