Presuming one has correctly entered the hotspot into the D-Star "repeaters" table, and selected that "repeater" (this is NOT reached using "memory" mode, you need to be in VFO, Long-press D-pad DOWN to bring up the repeater select table, Nearby Repeaters, ent -- your hotspot should be found [you do need a GPS lock])

On a D74:
  1. Long-press D-pad UP (bring up destination selectmenu)
  2. D-pad DOWN to reflector, press ent
  3. D-pad to link to reflector, press ent
  4. IF you've previously used the reflector, you should be able to D-pad UP/DOWN to the desired one, press ent
  5. IF it is not in the list, press input (dual - A/B button)
  6. D-pad UP/DOWN to cycle REF/XRF/DCS; D-pad RIGHT, D-pad UP/DOWN to enter select the 3 digit number; D-pad RIGHT, D-pad UP/DOWN to select module letter; press ent
The radio should now display

LINK REFLECTOR
reflector command

Press PTT (when the hotspot is "listening"). This should activate the reflector through the hotspot.
  1. Long-press D-pad UP (bring up destination selectmenu)
  2. D-pad DOWN to reflector, press ent
  3. D-pad to use reflector, press ent
The destination should read

USE REFLECTOR
CQCQCQ

You are done.

It actually goes much easier than it reads above.

I strongly recommend owners of the D74 download the so-called "in-depth manual" from Kenwood. It is essentially two essays focusing on the APRS and D-Star usage of the radio (unlike the 590SG IDM which has lots of technical details for that radio)
