"No D-Star Network"/"D-Star Net" status red after update

Post by N9AA »

I recently upgraded to 4.1.4 (and then to 4.1.5) and ever since I cannot get D-Star to work. As far as I can tell, Pi-Star is configured properly, since it was working properly before the upgrade and I AM registered (since about 2009), but I cannot get D-Star to work. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone have a fix? It is driving me nuts!

I upgraded from 4.1.something to 4.1.4 to 4.1.5. Here's a log from a couple of days ago, before my latest upgrade, which I know isn't the issue.

I encountered the same d-star problem with 4.1.5. my freq is 430.550. I am going to let the smoke settle on pi-star.

Thanks for the reply. The frequency text box background is green. The dedicated satellite sub-band is 435-438 MHz. Per the ARRL band plan:

70 Centimeters (420-450 MHz)
420.00-426.00 ATV repeater or simplex with 421.25 MHz video carrier control links and experimental
426.00-432.00 ATV simplex with 427.250-MHz video carrier frequency
432.00-432.07 EME (Earth-Moon-Earth)
432.07-432.10 Weak-signal CW
432.10 70-cm calling frequency
432.10-432.30 Mixed-mode and weak-signal work
432.30-432.40 Propagation beacons
432.40-433.00 Mixed-mode and weak-signal work
433.00-435.00 Auxiliary/repeater links
435.00-438.00 Satellite only (internationally)
438.00-444.00 ATV repeater input with 439.250-MHz video carrier frequency and repeater links
442.00-445.00 Repeater inputs and outputs (local option)
445.00-447.00 Shared by auxiliary and control links, repeaters and simplex (local option)
446.00 National simplex frequency
447.00-450.00 Repeater inputs and outputs (local option)

Theres nothing in that log that is reporting an error.

However, I DO see that you are within the satellite portion of the UHF band.

Move your frequency away from the range of 433 MHz to 438 MHz. If you notice on the frequency textbox in the dashboard it has a RED background, it should be GREEN

"D-Star Network" status red means ircddbgateway is not running. If you are ok with using ssh check ircddbgateway log using:
cat /var/log/pi-star/ircDDBGateway*.log

Look for the callsign M1ABC in the ircDDBGateway config - seen this in one other instance...
Fix that with the expert editor and you should be back in action quickly... In the mean time I will take a look and see if I can see why this happens.

That seems to have been the issue. Network status is now green and a reflector shows up in the D-Star network window in the dashboard. I looked at the ircDDBGateway configuration a couple of times and completely missed the M1ABC callsign. Thanks!!

I had a similar issue to the one M1ABC present in this post, but after changing to my callsign it still wouldn't connect to the network. After downgrading to 4.1.4 and typing in minimal set of information it connected fine. There were not error messages and I noticed that under 4.1.5 not all of the services were started (irc....).

So, any progress on this? I have updated to 4.1.5 with a clean install and new SD Card and I now have the issue of no D-STAR and no ircDDBGateway. I tried entering cat /var/log/pi-star/ircDDBGateway*.log through SSH and get the reply "cat '/var/log/pi-star/ircDDBGateway*.log': No such file or directory". What is this telling me, as the earlier post doesn't give details, and what should I do about it?

I am also getting lots of Warnings about needing to reselect the modem every time I try to look at the config page:-(

Where do I go from here please?

Hi,

I too am having problems with building a "clean install" and getting various things to work!

I had thought that I was an experienced player and have built a number of Pi-Star images over the last couple of years without any significant problems.

My last big build was in June with the upgrade between 3.1.x to 4.1.4 and then upgrades to 4.1.5, installing the Nextion Drivers etc and no problems, all went well.

In the last couple of days, using my existing files that I previously had no problems with, now it just is not extracting an building as previously and the Nextion Drivers did not seem to install???

I got to the stage were it was sort of working but the D-Star Network Status was RED!

Comparing between a working unit and the problem unit, I found in the ircDDBGateway page, about halfway down at ircddbUsername it was loaded with the default callsign and not mine! I loaded my callsign.

Further down I noticed at ccsHost it was loaded with CCS705 whereas my working unit had CCS704, so I changed this and then Applied Changes.

This seemed to get the system working on D-Star.

At this point this new "clean install" was now working.

I have since down loaded and used the last "build" 4.1.5_21-June-2021. I have now tried a new "clean install" using this build and again I ran into similar problems with the D-Star Networks RED and within the ircDDBgateway page? Correcting the ircddbUsername callsign and ccsHost fixed this issue.

Though, this time the Nextion Drivers did install OK, well there is a little hiccup but generally OK.

I hope the above information is of use and helps?
