Using dstar mode with pi-star

Post by M1DNS »

Ill kick off the DStar area of the forum with this FAQ when Using DStar mode with pi-star.

There are a couple of things to ensure are enabled within the dstar radio to work correctly with the pi-star image with DSTAR mode. All, or some of these following recommendations could help with pi-star not 'seeing' ur DStar RF transmissions.

Set the radio to DUPLEX mode (- or + it does not matter)
Set the duplex OFFSET freq. to 0.00hz
Setup RPT1 and RPT2 fields with callsign and module / gateway
Set UR field to either CQCQCQ, USE REFLECTOR or USE REPEATER

Following the recommendations above will help ensure your radio is set 'correctly' for use the DSTAR mode with pi-star.

Also if the pistar setup is intended to be a multiuser installation such as a repeater or simplex gateway, where it runs under its own club call, or NOV callsign. Be sure to change its use from private to public.

It's also worth mentioning that some of the DSTAR networks require your callsign be registered with them to enable you to talk through their particular installation.

It's also posted in the FAQ area of the forum, but thought it wouldn't hurtn to post it here too.

Thank you for the reply

I have seen the video a number of times and confirm that all the setting are as per the video with one possible exception which is Point 3

The RPT1 and RPT2 fields are already set in the Pi-star Configuration do I need to set them up in the ID-5100 itself ?
If so where should I put them?

1. Set the radio to DUPLEX mode (- or + it does not matter)
2. Set the duplex OFFSET freq. to 0.00hz
3. Setup RPT1 and RPT2 fields with callsign and module / gateway
4. Set UR field to either CQCQCQ, USE REFLECTOR or USE REPEATER

The settings in the text and video pertain to the radio.
