Did you setup your modem type in the configuration and did you enter your ssid and password in the wifi configuration section?

Yes, I also did a factory reset to re-enter my info to see if that would fix my problem and added now an exploded screen size? Much bigger than is needed?

If you are having trouble connecting to your WiFi in the house and the hotspot in the car, it may be easier to build a file to drop on the SD card. You can do so here.

Only that the WiFi is not connected to anything - if you never set it up - that would be why :)

I get the same 'error' message but it is set up, correctly as far as I can tell. I can see Pi-Star in the available networks on my computer, and I can connect to that network and get the Dashboard. BUT I can't get the hot spot to connect to the local network so that I can access the dashboard and the internet. I set it up in configuration as System 1. I'm not sure what is meant by setting the modem type in the config.

This sounds to me like you may be seeing Pi-Star running in Auto AP mode (Auto Access Point). Basically, if Pi-Star starts up and can't find a network to connect to (for example, no wireless network is configured, as in the initial state, or it isn't configured correctly, or you're traveling), then after a few minutes it will go into Auto AP mode, which means your hotspot will broadcast its own access point. At that point, you can see it listed as an available WiFi network (initially, it is listed as Pi-Star-Setup, but if you have changed the hostname in General Configuration, it will be whatever you changed the hostname to). When you connect to that access point, you have a wireless network that exists between the hotspot and the computer, but it isn't connected to the network.

KE0EFS,

You are spot on. For some reason, the hotspot is not using the local network that I've set up in the configuration. It insists on running in Auto AP and not connecting to the local network. And again, you are right, I can connect to the spot directly from the computer but that takes both of them off the local network and any internet access. Someone mentioned setting the router type (I think) but I'm not sure how that works. I don't see anyway to do that in the configuration.

Which model of Raspberry Pi are you using, and what version of Pi-Star do you have installed?
