wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd services

Post by g4wsz »

I've noticed that Pi-Star (v4.1.4 at least) has both "wpa_supplicant.service" AND "dhcpcd.service" enabled.

However, the dhcpcd service tends to launch its own wpa_supplicant as part of making a wifi network connection. This results in error messages as the second instance tries to create its service socket.

I have tried disabling the main wpa_supplicant service and the system seems still to work OK.

Does Pi-Star need both services running?

Thanks in advance,

I imagine it does, or it doesn't cause any major issues having them both running.

It might be needed for the wifi access point used to connect to the hotspot to configure it, since there would be no wpa_supplicant.conf information at that time.
If someones previous actions are any indication of their future actions, then I predict the deletion and removal of access will happen at any moment. 7-11-2020.
