Pi-star does not see wifi

Post by ki7fcg »

When I boot up my pi star it does not see the wifi network. It just sits on the "initializing" screen but never shows up on the wifi list. Running a IP scanner shows its address but I can't connect to it because it does not see the wifi network. It was working for a few weeks and then suddenly did not see the network. I have rebooted the router and pi star several times with no luck. I also downloaded the wifi supplicant file to the root of the sd card but no luck there either. What next?

Initializing... on what a Nextion? What list? And where, a list on your router?

That is impossible. If you run an IP scanner on your network, and it detects the RPi, it has to be connected somehow.

Use a phone, tablet, or laptop, disconnect it from your network, and scan for wifi networks, search for one labeled as "pi-star-setup", "pi-star", or whatever you might of named it in the configuration. Connect to it, and then configure it with your network settings and reboot it. Then disconnect and reconnect your device to your normal network.

Yeah, no luck. It is a zumspot and the "initializing" is showing on the zumspot. I am about ready to throw this thing in the trash. Followed your instructions but no dice. It does not show up on the computer wifi list even after disconnecting everything else. My router sees it but not the computer. cant get to it with i p address wired or wireless.

You need to take more than 2 seconds and answer the questions someone asked if you expect someone to try to help you.

Again, a NEXTION? You could have something screwed up somewhere else if it is a Nextion.

If it doesn't show up on a list when you scan for wifi networks then it is probably already connected to your network, or there is a hardware failure with the wifi.

Power off the hotspot for 10 or 15 seconds, and then boot it, and wait for at least 5 minutes, especially if you have a RPI Zero W. Then scan for wifi networks using a device again.

You can also open your router configuration and LOOK. There will be a page named "attached devices" or something similar that lists every device connected on your network and the IP address it assigned. If it is connected to your router, it WILL be listed there.

Or you can plug in a HDMI monitor and USB keyboard, and get the IP address of the RPi directly from the console.

Code: Select all

sudo ifconfig

Yes, Zumspot Nextion. As I said the router shows it connected to it but the computer does not see it or connect via IP address wired or wireless. As I said I have reset the router and Zumspot several times and waited for a few hours more than once.

RPi Zero W's don't have wired ethernet so you must have a RPi 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Since the router is showing it is connected it cannot be a problem with it not seeing your router. If it is using wifi, the wifi is working correctly, if it is using ethernet, then the ethernet is working correctly.

Try using a SSH client like PuTTY to connect to the RPi. If that works, then the webserver is faulty and you need to reimage the SD card. If that doesn't work then you need to download and flash the correct image from pi-star.uk not the Raspberry Pi imager from raspberrypi.org to flash the OS.

And if neither of those work -- it may be the ROUTER that needs configuration. Some are rigged to NOT allow WiFi clients to talk with other LAN clients -- only the Internet (a setting common to "public" WiFi nodes).
