I have been trying to connect to my Jumbo Spot using my I phone hotspot for numerous hours. I reflashed the SD card with the latest version of Pi-Star, built the Wifi Builder and i cannot connect to the jumbo spot using a laptop connected to the same Iphone hotspot. I am using a verizon cellphone hot spot and cannot tell whether the Jumbo Spot has ever connected as the Iphone does not show a list of connected devices. The SSID is just iPhone and the password is entered correctly.
What am I doing worng?

Wifi Setup using Iphone SE
Re: Wifi Setup using Iphone SE
I'm not sure it's possible to connect to Pi-Star running on a hotspot that's connected to your phone's hotspot via a laptop that's also connected to your phone's hotspot (it may be possible, but I've never heard of that before).
Instead, you can use the browser in your phone to connect to Pi-Star. On the iPhone, you should be able to use the address http://pi-star.local/. If that doesn't work, find an iPhone app that sniffs IP addresses and try connecting using the hotspot's IP address.

Re: Wifi Setup using Iphone SE
Thanks for the reply.
Apparently typing pi-star.local in safari does not work either. So I will have to wait until I get home.
So there is no connecting to the pi-star while away from home. At least not through my iphone hot spot.
Is it possible to connect to the Jumbo Spot with a Pi Zero via USB directly? Just curious?

Re: Wifi Setup using Iphone SE
I may be a bit confused here...
From what I've read, Pi-Star software will, if it doesn't connect to a Wi-Fi access point in the first two minutes of searching, turn itself into an access point (no internet, of course) for the purpose of letting a computer (maybe a tablet/phone) connect to /it/ for the purpose of configuring the parameters of a Wi-Fi access point.
So, presuming the Pi-Star unit has not previously been configured with the iPhone access point -- you have two devices that are both running as access points. I have a Samsung/Android phone so don't know if the details are similar, but... On the iPhone, turn OFF the access point (hotspot/tethering) mode -- make it a Wi-Fi client. THEN scan for Wi-Fi access points (remember to give the Pi-Star unit time to transition from disconnected client to access-point). If it now shows up, you should be able (with some study) get a browser to connect from the phone, and be able to edit the Wi-Fi connection information for the iPhone. Now the trick -- reboot the Pi-Star AND turn the iPhone back into an access point -- the Pi-Star should discover the iPhone and use the parameters you entered to authenticate.

Re: Wifi Setup using Iphone SE
The Pi-star shows up as Pi-Star Setup in the iphone wifi, but I cannot get it to open Safari (browser) nor access it using http://pi-star.local or http://pi-star/admin/ or http://pi-star.
I have not tried turning off the iphone hotspot, but wil try that. I don't think it will work as i cannot seem to point the browser at the device.

Re: Wifi Setup using Iphone SE
AS I stated, if the iPhone is in "hotspot" (access point) mode, it is waiting for other devices to connect to it, and it then relays Internet traffic through your cellular connection.W9KJO wrote: ↑Mon Jul 30, 2018 4:22 pm The Pi-star shows up as Pi-Star Setup in the iphone wifi, but I cannot get it to open Safari (browser) nor access it using http://pi-star.local or http://pi-star/admin/ or http://pi-star.

You need to turn off "hotspot" and actually have the Wi-Fi connect /to/ the "Pi-Star-Setup" access point. The iPhone has to be the client in the relationship. Then, if the various names won't open in the browser you may have to provide the IP number...
https://www.toshen.com/ke0fhs/pi-star.htm
Have the iPhone hotspot name and WPA password ready to put into the configuration page. Then, after saving it, reboot device and switch phone back to "hotspot". That should let the device now connect as client to the phone access point.Note: On some mobile devices, the url won't work. In that case, you can try the Auto AP mobile IP address: 192.168.50.1

Re: Wifi Setup using Iphone SE
OK it is working now.
One CAN connect both the Jumbo Spot and Laptop to the Verizon WIFI and access and setup the Jumbo Spot. One just has to be sure the Jumbo Spot connects. My Iphone, which I hate more everyday, had iphone in setting, it showed up as iPhone 2 on actual networks. The id I put in the Jumbo Spot was the one in the name field on my phone. when I changed it to something else and then back to iPhone2 the Jumbo Spot connected right up and the laptop could access pi-star.local.
Stinking Iphone. Cost me many hours of frustration. finally figure it out. all is working great now.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
