Hi Mike,

After you copy the wpa_supplicant.conf to the boot partition of the microSD card, the next time you boot up Pi-Star, the file is automatically moved to /etc/wpa_supplicant/, so you won't find it in the boot partition anymore.

I had a similar issue. Then for some reason I decided to plug in an additional power supply. More lights came on and I finally had a presence on my wifi network that I could work with.
At this point I believe that in my case the cell phone charger power supply just did not make enough current to run the hotspot. I have a 2.5 amp supply on the way to correct this situation

Toshen: Thanks - that is very good info to know. I will copy config file again to boot: in my next attempt.

This is interesting. I have been plugging in Jumbo Spot into computer - USB port for power, which is 5v I assume.
Before, powered up unit just with USB wall wart @ 5v/500mA - turned on, lights came on, but cannot recall the degree to which lights came on, though they did, were flashing, etc.

I have another USB wall wart at 5.5v with a 1A current draw, but am concerned with over-voltage on that one. Maybe .5v over is too much, maybe not.

I run a 3a supply.. no issues

The important thing with your power source is that it have 2.5A output (perhaps the two most common causes of initial failures are substandard power supplies and substandard microSD cards).

Based on both my own experience and from reading the Pi-Star groups and forums for the past year, I've created a page of Pi-Star troubleshooting notes that you might helpful: https://amateurradionotes.com/pi-star-t ... ooting.htm

Standard USB 2 ports are limited to 500mA (and if the port is part of a hub, typically the 500mA is distributed to all ports of the hub).

500mA may be enough for a pure R-Pi, but running WiFi radio AND then add a 2m/70cm amateur radio on top, is probably pushing the limits.

The 5V is the easy part, it's the current load that may need a wall-wart. I have an R-Pi wall-wart that is rated 5.25V@2400mA (5X the power output of common USB ports).

Status:

Tried USB wall wart with 2.4A - still no go. (recopied to SD config file before doing this).

So, either the SD card is bad and/or my router is just simply not recognizing the Jumbo spot - this is my deduction from someone new to this.

Possible solutions?

1. Reflash new "image" onto new SD card. Does this mean you simply copy files (i.e.copy all) from old SD card to new one?
Or does it mean using Pi-Star supplied files/"image"?

2. Hard-connect to router. (a) My router has 2 USB ports, but user manual says for "storage devices" only. Simply USB (Jumbo Spot)
to Router (USB) connection?,(b)There is an extra LAN port on my router - I have CAT-5 with jack to connect to router, but Jumbo spot only has 2 mini
USB jacks and another, larger one - see attached image, circles in red. I have no idea what kind of connection that is - a USB variant, ...?

1. New image downloaded from pistar.uk.

2. Either wifi, or cat 5 as discussed before. Plugging into the router usb port won't get you anything but power.
