Recommended Radios For Use On PI-Star

I'd like to be able to use my existing multimode radio which is tied up on MB6IRV so i need a replacement.

So Can anyone recommend me a solid reliable Radio for 24/7 use in an MB6 gateway please.

I'm finding gear like some of the standard Radio's, even with their dedicated 9K6 ports just are not up to it.

Perhaps EX PMR is the way to go ?

Are there any decent EX PMR suppliers still going these days

I can confirm the FT817 fitted with the TXCO works well in the DMR mode on my gateway MB6IRV

No mods were required just fed the signal from my MMDVM board into the MINI D data socket.

Tested an old FT90, althought his radio has a 9600 Baud option its proven to be difficult.

Not surprising really given the age of this radio.

I now have a four channel GM350 Running on Pi-Star.

The four channel version does need some mod's fitting ! By default the Data connections to the 15 Pin Acc socket are NOT connected.

Mod's for this radio are well documented HOWEVER I did find that my unit needed the Audio input level setting to max on both the MMDVM pcb

and in the software settings.

Your "mileage may vary" as they say, but depending on your MMDVM pcb you may need to add small wide band audio buffer amp.

I am currently using a Motorola GM-340 with a ZUM 1.0.1/MMDVM modem on a Due. This works really well and is basically a simplex version of F5UII repeater using two GM360s.

I use 3 GD-77 (with OpenGD77 firmware) + with simplex (PI0), dual (PI3) and even one of my GD77 in HotSpot (DMR). It works very well. ;)
