Request help with DMR setup and code plug for Anytone

Post by ko0y » Tue Jan 08, 2019 4:31 pm

I have an MMDVM HS_HAT firmware 1.4.14 and pi-star 3.4.16, trying to set up DMR only on the BM network. I've followed several videos and web pages and reached the point shown on the attached dashboard png. When I PTT my Anytone AT-D868UV, it shows my call on both RF and Gateway, but I see and hear no other activity. Where would I start to troubleshoot this? Also, is there someplace I could download a code plug for testing the pi-star?

I am new to pi-star and DMR, but proficient with the raspberry pi and Linux (SSH, etc.) Thanks for all help.

A few suggestions:
1) Try a busier talkgroup for testing purposes, like 310.
2) Try changing your BrandMeister Master, in case the one you have selected is having temporary issues.
3) Make use of a parrot channel like 310997 (private call), so you can directly hear whether your transmission is getting out and back.

Silly question but have you registered (or whatever they call it) the hotspot with BM?

Hmm, I never (knowingly) registered my hotspot with BrandMeister, and have not had issues with BrandMeister. In fact, when I first started using hotspots on BrandMeister, I didn't even have a SelfCare account. When I finally did create a SelfCare account, I entered my CCS7 ID and my callsign. I do use those IDs for my hotspots, but I never actually registered a hotspot. I always presumed I was able to see a hotspot on the BrandMeister dashboard because of my CCS7 ID.

I did register my hotspot with BM self-care, and I can see the dashboard for it, but if I search the list of hotspots, I don't find it there.

I made a new code plug with the following:
Talk group 1 uses ID 310, name "busier", group call.
Talk group 2 uses ID 310997, name "parrot", private call.
One receive group call list, named "All" with both talk groups in it.
Channel 1 has the hotspot frequency for both tx and rx, low power, 12.5K bandwidth, tx permit always, contact busier, CC 1, Slot 2, and receive group list all.
channel 2 is the same except the contact is parrot and receive group list is none.

When I transmit on either of these channels, I see my activity on the dashboard, but see or hear nothing else. I know the radio works because I have worked local repeaters.

I'd be glad to share my 868 codeplug. But if you go to Chicagolandcc.org and click code plugs, they have premade ones there you can start with. Look for the Openspot Zone.

That I can't find my hotspot on the BM network list leads me to think the pi-star is not connecting. I'm attaching my config page in case someone can point out a mistake.

Try a different server. The US ones can be a pain. I use Canada with no issues..

I know some people state that you should stay within your country.. but I do what works.

n9mxq, thank you. Canada works! I've been trying for days to set this up, and all the time it was the server.

I would try BM master 3102 or 3103. If you connect to a master too far away from you physically you may suffer from latency issues, But ymmv. 3102 works great for me.

I do know that from time to time they do upgrading (and maybe experimenting?) on 3108, so I try to avoid it.
