ZUMSpot + Hytera MD782 _ TGIF net - ZS not receiving

ZUMSpot V1.4.16

Having a problem with my ZUMSpot w/Pi-Star. It doesn't "hear" my Hutera MD-782 radio.

Settings

Channel - TX/RX Freq radio + Pi-Star match (not in satellite area)
I assume I can scan BM and TGIF by simply scanning two different channels. One channel works through my OpenSpot v1 (freq 1) while the other channel is on the ZUMSpot (freq 2). I configured the ZUMSpot to be on the TGIF network.

Contacts - Added the TGIF contacts. For example: Name: "TGIF-31665", "Group Call" and Call ID: "31665"

Scan List - Added the "TGIF-31665" to the same scan list

CC - Color Code 1

TS - Time Slot 2 (I also tried TS1)

RX Group List - Added the "TGIF-31665" to the RX Group List

Zone - Added "TGIF-31665" to the "Zone Members"

The ZUMSpot is receiving from the TGIF net (TG 31665) and transmitting the info to the radio (TRX RED). I am also receiving it on my Hytera radio. However, when I transmit from the MD-782 radio, the ZUMSpot doesn't receive anything. Nothing detected on the dashboard, TRX stays GREEN.

If someone can correct what I am doing wrong for just one TG then I can handle the others. I compared my TGIF TGs to what I configured for the OS1-BM as I got that one right. I must be missing something VERY basic or the ZUMSpot w/Pi-Star is defective. I bought it yesterday and assembled it (my second ZUMSpot build).

I feel your frustration as this also happens to me except it's not a time-out but me hitting the wrong key LOL.

Update - I programmed the CPS of my AnyTone 878 and it works fine with the ZUMSpot and TGIF.

So this means that my DMR ID is right and it must be something I missed in the Hytera code plug. One item you mentioned is worth looking at: changing from Private to Public. That will be for Monday evening when I get back from work.

Note that the Hytera works fine using my OpenSpot V1 hot spot into the BM network, which is why I mentioned that the DMR ID is right in the Hytera and in the ZUMSpot as the AnyTone works.

This doesn't necessarily mean things are okay. What matters is, as KE7FNS said, whether the DMR ID in your MD-782 matches the one in Pi-Star (if your ZUMspot is set to Private).

Also, have you tested your MD-782 with the openSPOT?

Finally, you might want to check your MD-782's Bit Error Rate. See the note: https://amateurradionotes.com/pi-star-n ... #tuningber

I don't see anything in there stating the CHANNEL configuration is configured for that talk group!

A DMR Channel requires, at a minimum:
Tx/Rx frequencies
TS
CC
and the specific CONTACT (talk group for Group contacts, DMR ID for Private contacts) that channel will address.

Note: I don't use "scan groups". I do use "Receive Group Lists".

Having multiple contacts in a receive group list and having that group associated with a "channel" only means that, while tuned to that channel, traffic for any contact in the group will be heard; but (unless the radio has a mode which switches responses to the last heard contact) will still be transmitting on the configured contact only. So, for example, my radio is configured with channels that are identical except for contact: one channels each for (all BM groups)

WorldWide
NorAm
US nationwide
US Zone 8
US Zone 9
Michigan
Mi5 Statewide 1
Mi5 Statewide 2
English WW
English WW 2
Canada
TAC1 through TAC10 (aka TG 310 - 319)

and those are split into two ZONES (MD390 is an older design with a limit of 16 channels per zone), They are also set into Receive Group Lists applicable to the zone.

I don't know how TGIF activates groups. For BM, I have configured Mi5 SW1/SW2 as "static" groups. Any traffic on those groups will be heard if I'm tuned to any channel sharing the receive group, and I can then dial in the correct channel to reply. Normally I'm on US nationwide (BM 3100), which is a dynamic group -- BM won't send traffic to me until I've activated the group by keying up on that channel.

Without static groups, only the last used (Tx from hotspot to BM) dynamic group would be active on BM (after any other dynamics have timed out, if one had changed channel).

Receive Group Lists are a convenience allowing one to receive traffic that is not on the talk group assigned to the current channel. If you haven't defined the Tx talk group/contact, I don't know what the radio would do when PTT is pressed.

"No Joy" ... I don't get it. The Hytera MD-782 works just fine through my OpenSpot V1 on BM but doesn't want to trigger the ZUMSpot which is on TGIF. My AnyTone 878 works just fine on TGIF 31665 so I know that the ZUMSPot is setup properly

I also know that the MD782 is transmitting digital as I can hear myself and see my info on my AnyTone 878 handheld screen that's on the same channel. But the ZUMSpot doesn't trip. This points to a configuration problem with the MD-782 but I am dumbfounded.

On the MD-782 I have TG "31665" in my contact list (Group Call), the right channel/frequency (simplex confirmed), CC1, TS2 (also tried TS1), ScanList, RX List, my ID in the MD-782 is right and matches what's on the ZUMSpot (also works with the OS1 and is the same as on my AnyTone 878), etc.

As for the BER, I can't really tweak it as the ZUMSPOT doesn't even list it or show that it's receiving RF from the MD-782 ... even if the AnyTone 878 receives the signal full bars. And yes, it is transmitting on the right frequency.

Why does it work on the BM net via the OpenSpot V1 and not via this ZUMSpot???

Grrr ... it will more than like be something simple BUT I need to find it. :-(

I just "looked" at what is being sent via my NE-SDR & tablet. It shows that I am transmitting on the right frequency and is the same as from the AnyTone.

Any Hytera MD-782 users out there???

"signal full bars" only reflects the RF energy being received. My DStar radio shows "full bars" when my DMR radio is keyed (since both are on the same frequency for my hotspot, which is configured for both DMR/BM and DStar).

Does the 878 /reliably decode/ what it is receiving from the 782? That is: 1) does the 878 display show that it is receiving traffic on the expected talk group, and 2) is the traffic clear.

Scan lists and receive groups are irrelevant here -- while debugging I'd probably set both entries to NONE

Looking at http://www.ttgcommunications.com/images ... de%201.pdf (hope I trimmed the garbage google overhead properly) the items I'd want to see are Figure 23 or 24 (depending on software version) -- in particular, what "Tx Contact Name", "Tx Admit", and "In-Call..." (basically, block #3 on figure 24; also, block #4 should have a 0.0 offset)

Also -- make sure you are set to the lowest power output setting; high settings could be overloading the hotspot front-end.
