Downlink Activate Received Message

Post by VA3UV »

Hi Folks:

Now that I have my Repeater Builder STM-DVM v3 board running, I have YSF, D-STAR, and P25 working. I am unable to get it to acknowledge my DMR transmissions. I see this in the MMDVM log file:

M: 2021-05-29 15:08:49.564 Downlink Activate received from VA3UV

My HT (TYT MD-380) LED flashes red/green and then I get a beep back.

Any clues?

Thanks,

I suspect we'd need to see the DMR configuration in the Pi-Star admin page, AND the channel configurations in the radio code plug.

I have 2 repeaters, both running Pi-Star (and one TYT HT that is the common denominator!). I have checked / compared the various config screens between the 2 systems, other than the CCS/DMR ID, callsigns, and frequencies the configs are the same.

I also double-checked my HT (since it's the common denominator), comparing the 2 channels that I have programmed (one for each repeater). The interesting thing is that one one repeater (the one that works), I see the following in response to my link request:

M: 2021-05-30 21:37:53.232 Downlink Activate received from VA3UV
M: 2021-05-30 21:37:53.635 DMR Slot 2, received RF voice header from VA3UV to TG 302050
M: 2021-05-30 21:37:58.133 DMR Slot 2, received RF end of voice transmission from VA3UV to TG 302050, 4.3 seconds, BER: 0.3%, RSSI: -43/-43/-43 dBm

On VA3PMO (the one that I am having issues with), I just get the first line:

M: 2021-05-30 21:39:24.391 Downlink Activate received from VA3UV

I do not even show up on the dashboard for this repeater! - it's as if I am not "approved" to use it. I believe there is an approved user list somewhere, may be that's the first place to look?

Thanks!

Is it set to public access? If it is set to private access only the matching DMR ID will be accepted. You could probably test this by entering the DMR ID for VA3PMO into your radio.

There could also be whitelisted DMR ID's listed in the configuration and if you are not in that list you are ignored. No ID's in the list means everyone is accepted when set to public.
Checked my config again, and it's definitely set for Public.

Odd thing (another odd thing!) is that I had 2 local guys test using their DMR radios and they both show up on the Pi-Star dashboard!

The fact that there is one line in the log file does confirm that the repeater is hearing me and receiving my request to connect to 302050... for whatever reason, I am not showing up on the dashboard and the repeater isn't acting upon my request.

Well then that pretty much confirms its your radio. I'd create a new channel from scratch and test. Maybe you have some weird setting enabled when you shouldn't.

It doesn't appear that it is actually hearing your request to connect to 302050 because it never responds with the following.

Code: Select all

M: 2021-05-30 21:37:53.635 DMR Slot 2, received RF voice header from VA3UV to TG 302050
Maybe you have an incorrect CC set?
OK, I programmed a clean (new) channel - same thing!

Next, I located the /usr/local/etc/DMRIds.dat file and confirmed that my call is in there, so that eliminates the theory that I might not be an approved user.

CC is correct (1), verified that on the radioid.net site AND it matches my Pi config page. I have tried TS1 and TS2.

Next, I changed the radio (my HT) ID to be VA3PMO (same as the repeater) and I get a similar result.

This is beyond puzzling now!

Cheers,

Ramesh.

No, theres nothing in that file that has anything to do with being an "approved user". Its just a lookup table, if the DMR ID exists in that file it will print out the callsign, if the DMR ID doesn't exist it will print out the DMR ID.

radioid.net site information is irrelevant, it has no bearing on the configuration of your setup. I'm not even sure the configuration matters for your setup because you use an external radio.

Still sounds like your radio to me. Try a different radio. Check for a firmware update for that radio. Try using an SDR and some SDR software like SDRangel and see if you can decode your own transmissions properly.
Problem solved..... I had to retune the DMR audio (using MMDVMCal)... once the audio had been set correctly, my HT was able to receive and decode the 'ACK' back from the repeater and then continue with the transmission into the repeater!

Well Guys i have similar issue.
Repeater Builder STM32 Version3 with 2 CDM1550 VHF

Repeater is running fine with portable or mobile up to 1.5km then Repeater RX is not decoding.
Someone as a tester at 10km with a 50w radio can key up the repeater and the RX decode only the first line below in red,
the second line is the local guy answering to the distant guys.
When the repeater receive our Provincial TG3022 everyone can receive in a 50km range.
So RX it is working only local near the repeater.
TX is running fine but only RX having this issue.
Why it does decode when less than a 1.5km and does not when further? We are just pulling our hair off....

While i was builting he repeater a home i even swaped the RPi and the MMDVM modem on my own UHF repeater and only had to go thru the Clip Led trick adjustment and that was it. Repeater was running fine.

Also at home when testing the new RPT VHF i did not have Duplexer so was running split antennas and went for a ride around the block with my portable and was working fine (Less than 1km) But now the repeater has been shipped to destination 400km away and a top of a 15 story building the RX coverage was 1.5km and over 50km on TX.
But because there is a Cellular Cell on top of that buiding we tought that we had decence. So the repeater was brought back to the owner's house and same problem. Also the S-meter on the CDM1550 is full scale at 10km so radio is not deaf.

So if anyone have an idea let us know
