Pi-Star on Xfinity WiFi

Post by N4LES »

Recently purchased a Jumbo spot. It works with D-Star. It also works with DMR on my cellular hotspot. However when connected to my home WiFi DMR will not connect. The modem/router is Motorola MG-7550.

Here is a copy of the log file that results:

Live Logs
Starting logging, please wait...
M: 2019-12-30 03:13:57.725 DMR Slot 2, received RF voice header from N4LES to TG 91
M: 2019-12-30 03:13:58.977 DMR Slot 2, received RF end of voice transmission, 1.4 seconds, BER: 0.4%, RSSI: -47/-47/-47 dBm
E: 2019-12-30 03:14:37.447 DMR, Connection to the master has timed out, retrying connection
M: 2019-12-30 03:14:37.447 DMR, Closing DMR Network
M: 2019-12-30 03:14:37.447 DMR, Opening DMR Network

I have tried multiple DMR masters without success. I have also assigned an internal IP and placed in the DMZ without any success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just guessing, but maybe your IP on your home network has been banned by the particular DMR network you're attempting to use?

You might want to try another network to confirm or rule out this possibility.

Aaaaand... reply here too since THIS is the topic I meant to reply to...

Until recently, I had the same issue. Motorola MG7550 modem wasn't letting DMR through no matter whether I disabled the firewall, put the hotspot into the DMZ, or did port forwarding on all ports starting with 22.

I ended up getting a modem only with no wifi and it works great now. Just for info sake, I ended up with the NetGear CM1000 running through my Airport Extreme.

Probably not what you wanted to hear, but all I've read about the Motorola is it's a nightmare to work with for gaming and anything else.

Good luck!

-John

Edit: How I tested this -
1. Setup Windows 10 as a hotspot and connect the DMR hotspot to it.
2. Connect PC to xfinitywifi
3. See that DMR works. It's not Comcast blocking.
4. Connect PC to MG7550 wifi.
5. See DMR is not working. It's the the MG7550 blocking.
6. Buy CM1000, go through all sorts of hoops to get Comcast to recognize it... Partly my fault there.
7. Set up Airport Extreme router.
8. Set up DMR hotspot and see data flow in...

Thanks for the info John. I have ordered NetGear CM1000 and will give it a try and report back.
