RPi Model B+ V1.2 and MMDVM/Pi-star compatibility

Post by M7HMR »

Hello friends. Search the whole forum but can't find answer. About to buy this cheap old RPi Model B+ V1.2 for MMDVM and install Pi-star app software as my 4th set. Anyone knows if that old RPI B+ V1.2 is compatible with chinese MMDVM with pi-star app? Thanks in advance friends.

A RPi 1 Model B+?

Sure, it'll work but in my opinion its a waste of money to buy old crap, the old stuff is slow as molasses in winter. For the same amount of money you can get something much newer and has even more performance.

The old RPi's are single core at 700 MHz compared to a single core 1000MHz RPi Zero W that only costs 10-14 bucks brand new.

One issue is going to be the old 26 pin GPIO, some of the hats need pins 38 and 40 which the older 26 pin GPIO does not have.

I'd get something with 4 cores, so at least something in the RPi 2, 3 or 4 models, or now the Zero W 2.

BTW bruv.... I think it's not rpi 1. Doesn't have a sort of model number printed on its main board. See if I can attach its image so you and others can see. Cheers mate.

Nope, its a crappy RPi 1, still being made until 2026.

At least its got a 40 pin GPIO, so thats a slight improvement, but I wouldn't take it even if you gave it to me. I did a comparison of single core vs multicore on the forum and if I remember it was something like 30 seconds for a single core RPi Zero W to boot, and 400 ms for a multicore RP3 3B to boot.

For many products the "first" models tend to not have a number. That 2014 copyright, OTOH...
