How do you change talkgroups from the radio in YSF2DMR

Post by VE3RD »

I have been trying to find out how to change the DMR talk group on the radio in YSF2DMR mode. There is talk that it can be done using the wires-x feature on the radio.
However I have been unable to make it work and unable to find the instructions to do so.

I am using pi-star 3.4.17
I have YSF Mode working
I have YSF2DMR mode working using the default TG
I have the following parameters set that refer to wires-x

/etc/ysf2dmr
[YSF Network]
EnableWiresX=1

[DMR Network]
TGListFile=/usr/local/etc/TGList_DMR.txt
This file exists at this location

[YSF Network]
DstPort=3200 // Set for MMDVMHost
LocalPort=4200

/etc/ysfgateway
[General]
WiresXCommandPassthrough=1
WiresXMakeUpper=1 // I suspect this is just for the upper case format of the hosts file

I have the

I have tryed the reflector mode setting #00302 which brings up an FCS reflector instead of changing the talk group
I have tryed just sending DTMF tones #302, #00302, 00302,302 without any success

What am I missing here.

I'm thinking from memory this feature didn't find its way into the 3.4 image, but it's a feature in the 4.1 image

Flashed a 4.1.0 RC6, and still have problems.

I cannot get it to change to a known tg.

If I press the band button, it sends a 4000 then changes to tg9, and I cannot get it to change off tg9 untill I do a pi-star reboot, where it goes back to the default.

What are the key strokes on an FT70 to make it change talkgroups

I no longer own a 70 so I can't remember the key sequences.

Try scrolling through this thread... were it's also being discussed.

I stumbled across this by accident after many many hours of fiddling.

This has been tested on pi-star 4.1.0 RC6, and 3.4.17

I am not sure this is the proper way, but it does work!

1) Make your normal connect to YSF2DMR with the [F] then [AMS]
2) Turn the dial to EN, # and enter your talk group, all 5 digits, ie: 00302
3) Press [AMS], it will time out with three beeps
4) Clear the tg numbers you entered by holding the [HM/RV] button for a couple of seconds
5) Rotate the dial to the Lc screen with your callsign.
6) Key the radio, you are now on your new talk group (or should be)
It may require a repeat starting at 2

Pi-Star Setup - Modes YSF and YSF2DMR

I got this working in 4.1.0 RC6 then put in a 3.4.17 card, and went straight to ysf2dmr

initally I had problems getting it to work. I reverted back to just YSF Mode, got that working then added the ysf2dmr.

I suspect that there are parameters that are automatically set when you fire up YSF mode that do not get set when you go straight to YSF2DMR

Appreciate you sharing, but can you possibly provide more detail. tried your steps on my FT-70D and no dice. seems like some steps missing.

Thanks

I am going to describe how I do it on my handheld FT-2D and my zumspot.

Setting on Pi-star:
YSFStartup HOST: YSF00002
UPPERCASE Hostfiles
WiresX Passthrough
DMRid=your dmr id
DMR Master=Your perferred Master
Hotspot Security = empty
DMR TG = your prefered startup TG

On my radio:
  • I press the X button to connect to my HotSpot in Wires-x mode (i am immediatelly brough to the favorite TG set in Pi-star)
  • Push the button 'Search and direct"
  • push ID button (which puts a Hash symbol on the display) and then the 5 digit talkgroup number; i.e. for tg 91 i am typing #00091
It works but as soon as the QSO ends your are automatically brought to your original preferred TG.
In fact it is a bit annoying because the timeout is very short and if the speakers leave a relatively long gap between changes then you are disconnected; On DMR we are used to leave gaps to allow users to have time to push buttons when they want disconnect, for this reason you are disconnected very often.
i am in fact going to open another thread for this issue.

I hope this helps

Leave all the crossmode start up fields blank.
