Andrew:

First: thank you for your response.

I have tried that several times for some reason Im getting err readings or can't connect on some lines on the update.

I show the Alabama Link and the American RC link but thats all.

Have been running on FCS00390 with no problems with connections etc.

I've been having quite a bit of trouble with updates recently (I'm mostly running 4.0.0-RC3 on my various hotspots). What I've learned is that I can get past the issues: Pi-Star stuck is read-write mode, error messages about locked directories, and the update getting stuck at certain steps. This seems to have been worse when there was recently a significant Raspbian update as part of the Pi-Star Update process.

I've come to the conclusion that a lot of problem is due to the Auto AP feature, and the best way to get things sorted out is to turn off Auto AP, apply changes, reboot, run an update, turn Auto AP back on, apply changes, reboot again, and run another update.

Also, patience helped because sometimes the update would take several minutes to get past the Updating DV Binaries step. Whenever it gets stuck at that point, I read some news or get up and go do something else for ten minutes. Sooner or later, it always gets unstuck.

Eventually, I'll run an update that finishes with Pi-Star in read-only mode. After that, everything appears to be fine. I'm hoping this is a temporary issue with RC3, and that a future release will be more stable.

Note: I'm running the updates manually from an SSH app, so I'm getting the most complete update possible.

The AmericaLink Facebook page is advertising for someone to host the YSF reflector. It appears to have disappeared.

Use FCS00290. You will be back in business.

Thanks.

I tried the AP reboot several times and it didn't work for me at all.

I have switched to FCS.

Thanks

Please explain manual update. Is that the Update link on the web interface?

That's one way. A better way, the way that gives you the most complete update is to log into Pi-Star via an SSH app like Termius or PuTTY, and then run the following command:

Code: Select all

sudo pistar-update
For a more complete explanation of the three different types of update, see:

Yes. If left alone pistar will auto update each night via the auto maintenance scripts that run in the early hrs.

Or... As of 3.7.12 it's poss to manually update ur pistar install using the link on the web GUI. There's also a link for pistar- upgrade also found on the expert page, so no more need to SSH. It can all be done from the Web GUI.

Sometimes prior to the update server refreshes itself if a particular link isn't available it won't show an update for it in ur install. Obvs. If this particular link is no longer running an update won't bring it back if it's now offair.
