Connecting to FCS vs YSF

Post by KD2KBU »

I am using a Yaesu FT-70DR with a ZUMsppot and Raspberry Pi Zero W.

I know that if I want to connect to a YSF room I can enter the 5 digit YSF number for a given room on my radio and connect- for example for the Alabama Link, I would enter 02034 and then push the AMS key on the radio to connect.

I know how to change the room (YSF or FCS) in Pi-Star from the drop down box, and hitting APPLY; but I want to learn how to change it from my radio.

I cannot figure out how to enter the desired "room" with FCS. For example, if I want to go to America Link, FCS00290, I have tried entering 00290 and pressing the AMS key. That has not worked.

Can anyone explain to me how to connect to the FCS rooms from the radio?

Thanks
John

If I understand it correctly, you must use DTMF Tones to change the "room" from your radio. So for America Link, press and hold the PTT, enter "A290". Release the PTT. However, I have yet to get this to work with my FT-70DR as the BER when sending DTMF is very high. I also just tried this with my FTM-100DR and it didn't work on that radio either.

FCS rooms are now all in the Wires-X menu on the radio, you can also use DTMF A290 will select FCS002-90 for example.

Using DTMF A290 with my FT70 also does not work. I can use the drop down menu. Ignorance showing here. Why A for A290?

Honestly - I dont know... all of FCS is A{FCS host number}{FCS Room number} while all of YSF is #{YSF Reflector number}

Wondering if anyone has a Zumspot working with DTMF changing rooms? If so what radio are you using with it?

On my FT-70, I can connect to FCS00290 (American Link WIRES-X) by turning the top knob to show the C* screen and entering 00140 and press the AMS key. The Cn screen shows FCS002 and room 290. I can make contacts on the American Link WIRES-X using 00140.
If you want to connect to FCS00355 (WISCONSIN LINK), you need to go to the Pi-Star configuration page find the FCS00290 and then start counting the number of FCS entries between FCS00290 and FCS00355. Today, I counted 32. 32 plus 00140 is 00172. Go to C* screen and enter 00172 and press AMS key. The Cn screen shows FCS003 and room 355.
If you want to connect to FCS00285 (American Ragchew Wires-X), which is 2 above the FCS00290 in the Pi-Star configuration page, subtract 2 from 00140 for 00138. Go to C* screen and enter 00138 and press AMS key. The Cn screen shows FCS002 and room 285.
Note: The list for all Pi-Star reflectors are shown on the Pi-Star Configuration page in the Yaesu System Fusion Configuration section. Use the list in the Setting for YSF Startup Host: Do not click Apply Changes if you are only looking at what reflectors that you can connect to using Pi-Star and counting the reflectors from your known value to the reflectors that you want to connect.

Thanks N6WY. Works great. The step before your instructions is press the F key then hold the AMS key till wires mode is achieved. How did you arrive at 140 for America Link. Trial and error or is there a formula we could use for all rooms?

Does any one know of a way to connect to a Wires-X room (#28952 Kansas City Ks link ) that doesn't have a hotspot connected to it, other than buying more equipment? Like the Wires-X HRD-2 and a FTM-100 ...
I have a ZumSpot on a Raspberry Pi-Zero, and have just found this post and I am new to Wires-X as well. still learning.
I have a FTM-70D and Learning this new thing called Wires, and YCF Vs FCS
What is the difference? I guess I missed that post.
