P25 Refelctors list being deleted.

Post by XE1F »

Hi, i added a reflector to the file P25HostsLocal.txt for testing. The issue is that it seems to be clared every night. Is it possible to avoid the file to be cleared automatically?

Thank you,
Juan Carlos

Hi Juan,

Pi-Star updates the lists of reflectors and repeaters stored in the regular hosts files (/usr/local/etc) nightly when the automatic updates are run, so anything you add to those files is overwritten.

Fortunately, there is a workaround. Switch to the root user and to the root user's home directory (/root).

In the root directory, you'll find copies of the hosts files. Edit the one you want (in your case, P25Hosts.txt) and then run a Pi-Star Update. The update will copy the addition in the root hosts files into the hosts files in /usr/local/etc. (Note that the file names are case sensitive, so make sure you use the correct capitalization when choosing the file to edit.)

Note: From what I've seen, the P25 Hosts file works a bit different from the other modes. The other modes append the addition in the root hosts files to the hosts files with the same name in /usr/local/etc. But P25 adds it to a different file, P25HostsLocal.txt in /usr/local/etc. Regardless, the outcome is the same. After you run the Pi-Star Update, you should find your added reflector in the P25 Startup Host drop-down list on the Configuration page, and it won't get deleted by the automatic overnight update.
